Sorry to be so dim, I am not up-to-date with remote control models. Is this done with a remote-control camera mounted in a flying-model aircraft? Is the image viewed on a screen on the ground in real-time? I guess it must be. Is it common practise now to have cameras in flying models, or is this the first? It certainly impresses me, flying models are a bit of a black art to me anyhow. :dunno:

Now I certainly have no wish to belittle anyone elses' hobby - but we can do great pictures and movies in FlightSimming. dare I say even better ones? When I tell people about FlightSimming they usually ask me if I am going to "move on" to radio control as if it is better! :o I say it must be great to have (or to have built) an R/C airliner or something, but you cannot plan a flight anywhere in the world, load the fuel, climb on the flight deck, tune the radios, do the checklists and request clearance from ATC.

Once again, I am not trying to cause a fuss. I expect a lot of us may be enthusiasts of all sorts of modelling, so can I ask for some body else's views on the matter? I do not want to find a winner and loser, just a friendly chat. :)

FlightSimming will not give you a day in the park, that's for sure. What are the other pro's and cons?

Jim

I was talking to a chap up on Lardon Chase (a fairly large hill next to my humble abode) a few years back who'd got a rather large R/C glider he was launching. This 'beast' had a camera fitted which they use to keep a visual eye on where the glider is as they follow it (fly it) by car on cross country races :o I was totally gobsmacked (even moreso when the dog stood on it) :@ Fortunately, it was built of some very expensive composite material and well able to withstand a few stone of Labrador!! At that point, I made my farewell and legged it

Very impressive I must say. Can't remember how much the chap said the lot was worth but it wasn't a trifling sum!

A friend at work has a miniature camera that is about 25mm cube with a built-in microphone and transmitter. He has it mounted on an RC car and drives it via a monitor.
We did mount it on my heli once, which was quite fun :)

Quite cheap, here's one on eBay

Looks like it was flown on a field just to the back of my house - it's a regular haunt for model aircraft types. One of them lives next door to me so I'll mention this next time I see him to see if he can shed any more light on it.
