An 'ole is required!

Messing about with a panelfor the Rotodyne I would like to 'cut away' part of the main panel bmp so that I as approach my intended landing pad/area I can see the ground textures.

I do have paint and have tried erasing the required area and repainting with the black colour from the area above the panel through which one sees the runway or country/sky ahead when in flight. That did not work.

I am trying to make the small perspex panel seen in most 'copters just in front of the rear rotor pedals through which the pilot make look to see how high the machine is off the ground/deck.

Can anyone suggest a proven method please?

Hi Hobby

If the model part is set to transparent then you could remove bits with alpha channels

If the parts are not set up as transaprent there is nothing you can do about it i'm afraid. :$

Thanks Garry. I shall have to 'virtually' lean forward and peer over the nose and hope the undercarriage is sufficiently strong for my arrivals!!

Hi Hobby,

A problem with cutting bits out of the 2D panel to see out of (which incidentally is possible) is the position of the default view. On most models, the ground view is brought down to a position just below the level of the top of the glareshield and the 2D panel sits on top of that. The area below the ground view is always black as there's usually nothing there if you see what I mean. If you drag the outside view DOWN too much, it distorts the perspective too much and you generally end up losing sight of the end of the runway! :lol:

I've never tried to cut a section out of a VC to see the ground so I'd guess that Garry's explanation above is correct for that scenario but for a 2D panel, you won't see anything out of the hole unless you bring the outside view down to meet it :) Possible, yes.. very much so but at the risk of distorting what you're seeing out of the main 2D windows ;-)

At present some of my vertical 'arrivals' require a Mk2 'Zebedee' undercarriage. I shall keep practicing in Ito's Rotodyne!

Don't know if this will muddy the waters any, but I have had installed the TU144 'Konkordski' model/panel, [in the past], in which the view of the runway in all but zero. That developer got round the problem by having a pop up window that was the view a head, with no clutter/gauges - just the runway view. I suppose the view angle could be altered to point more downwards & thus suitable for helicopter use.

In that case Bob...on a similar vein, the extra window pop up CTRLW I think it is could be used the show the outside of the aircraft and the touchdown could be gauged by that. :think:
