Amazed by this
I know that I am insulting the RAF here, but it's NOT the intention ;-) - more that as my assumption of Aircraft cockpits 'in service' being one of 'careworn' or heavily used' - I was amazed to see how good looking the inside of this VC10 is...

Quite unbelievable given the use they get!

Vickers almost made it as good as DM's cockpit

Just thought about that... and it mentions their names too......
Anyway, another atmospheric shot from the USN.....

Interesting that No. 1 & 3 are running slightly reduced throttle compared with 2&4. Is this the norm?
Ben.

I was wondering that as well Ben
1+4 or 2+3 would make more sense

Re: Amazed by this
Interesting obbo.
One of the 'odd and even' procedures Mr T alluded to recently?
I see the theory in wondering why not 1/4 or 2/3 - does it actually matter so much from a flight dynamics point of view on a VC10?
I could see an issue with having the outer engines on a 747 or whatever, where there's a greater distance between the outer engines, but the VC10s close grouping surely keeps all the thrust closer together minimising those effects?
I can see the throttles slightly down, but I can't see a major difference in the RPM gauges.....
Here's another couple I've found -

Just to confuse things that last one looks like 2/3 are **slightly** reduced......

Re: Amazed by this
Interesting to note that the RPM's look the same. Maybe its just that each throttle position is adjust to give the correct RPM? I guess these engines aren't exactly new, so maybe each is a little "unique"
Ben.
Re: Amazed by this
I'm sure Tonks will come up with the correct answer but in my view Ben is correct. As an engine ages the relationship between throttle position and RPM changes due to internal clearances and temperatures, and that's without the mechanical adjustment in the cables from flightdeck to nacelle. Because of this the throttles are rarely set at exactly the same position for a given RPM setting.
Nice photo indeed!
