Re: XH558 First Flight . . . . . Today!!!
To Everyone who hasn't seen one of these magical machines in the air for real.... I was lucky enough to see them often on exercise in the '70s and early '80s over the Scottish borders, as well as several times at Airshows - and I can assure you that when you *do* see it for real, it will never leave you ;-)
Virtually everyone I know who has even only a fleeting interest in aircraft talk about her. I don't know if the new displays will be slightly different than when she was 'in service' (Hopefully not) - but you will not be dissapointed - it's the only aircraft I can remember at Leuchars which gave a warm blast of air as it turned it's exhausts to the crowd :o - it really did defy belief the first few times I saw it. I cannot wait to see her in the flesh again - I will be at Fairford next year to make sure - and hoping she makes a visit north of the border also :yipeee:

Alexp, having looked at that I would say it was and is sited in a dome - time lapse (digital) not real time by the way the playback appeared. An interesting angle from a CCTV(?) camera
Hope that helps you query.

My favourite memory of a Vulcan was in mid-evening one summer in the late 1950s, when I saw one in the all white anti flash scheme at high altitude. The sight of this, lit from below by the setting sun, has stayed with me so that I can still see it after nearly 50 years. The all white scheme was quite beautiful, and I regret that it is not still extant

Magnificent - well done to all concerned.
My abiding memory is of a mass scramble at Finningley. I think my insides are still trembling with the sound.

Who knows... maybe in a few years time when/if 558 gets a repaint she may end up anti-flash white, I think it's stunningly beautiful and I assume 558 was white at some time in her life so it wouldn't be inaccurate at all.cstorey wrote:My favourite memory of a Vulcan was in mid-evening one summer in the late 1950s, when I saw one in the all white anti flash scheme at high altitude. I was almost sure she was but a quick google just to check didn't pull up any images... probably because any mention of 558 on a search engine just pulls up articles about the good news.XR219 wrote:She was indeed in Anti Flash when she started off.

Not only is she a beautiful sight, but the famous Vulcan howl is back too!
Put your headphones on, turn up the volume and listen just after she starts to move.
