Hawker Sea Hawk W.I.P
Hello all,
as I mentioned a while back, I have started on the Sea Hawk model. As you can see, I still have a long way to go, but thought I'd share my progress with you so far. Please bear in mind, this is my first tentative foray into the world of FS modelling, so there will be a few rough edges to her! I'm hoping the paintwork will make up for the flaws ;-)
Feedback as usual appreciated (especially in this area!). The model is not welded yet as you can see, so there'll be an ugly line through her for a while.

Effluxes and 'pen nib' fairings are coming along well. Those seem to be the most difficult bits to shape correctly.
Having seen a promotional booklet by "Adhoc Publications", which comes free on the cover of the latest "Aeroplane", and covers publications on the Firebrand, Wyvern, Sea Hawk, Attacker, Gannet, and Sea Hornet, I have just ordered the From the Cockpit Sea Hawk: 136 pages £21.45 inc UK postage. The 'From the Cockpit' books are very good, they're almost addictive. There are some good cockpit shots in them as well detailing all the instruments etc.

Could anyone here help me out with how to round edges in GMAX? I am trying to round the edges for the intake but it's late and I'm stuck! I know it's probably an easy thing, but I am still a noob at this! Cheers all,

Hi Steve,
I'm not sure that there is an easy solution to this. I would have made the leading edges a bit more blunt by adding a few more edges. This would reduce the angle between each face.
Best wishes

If you're happy with extruding more faces (this might be a 3d studio only thing, not sure) then it'd probably be quickest to delete the leading edge of the wing and re-model with more faces as Steve said. To extrude edges, select them, select the move tool and then press shift and drag them, this should then produce a new face. Do it a couple of times and then you can have a more gradual curve.

Re: Hawker Sea Hawk W.I.P
Thanks SKippy and Steve, I'll have a play around with the leading edges and see what I get. As of last night I let it go and moved on, as this is my first model and I'd rather get it done and learn from it than get bogged down and flounder for ages. I think we'll consider it an 'interim' Sea Hawk until a 'serious' modeller goes for it! Doesn't mean I'll do a bad job on purpose, but you get the idea.

Wow, nice video there, Jab, thanks for sharing that. I do indeed plan to paint the RN historic flight version along with a 1,000 or so other schemes (joke, but there will be a lot, since it has such rich markings). As for the smoky startup, this is something I've been talking to James (Hobby) about and I certainly would like to try. The main priority is getting the basic model built at first though. Currently I am on holiday back in the UK so no work on the old girl for a bit, although I am planning afield trip to the MAM again to get inside their Sea Hawk, so I suppose that is 'work',
