Proper installation of HMS Ark Royal Scenery from SkySim?

Gentlemen

I've just downloaded the new freeware scenery of HMS Ark Royal from SkySim and it appears there are no directions telling you how to install it. I know the overall routine of installing scenery but in this one there's a directory called "OF Files" and then a scenery directory under that with what appear to be AFCAD's. I selected the Ark Royal with the parked airplanes on it, am just wondering if I have this "OF Files" directory activated along with the other directories of the Ark off Norway, Mayport, Channel and the Med?

Any advice kindly appreciated!

Regards from Taiwan
John

John,

In Settings ->Scenery Library
select 'OF Files' Folder and the 'Ark Royal - *' Folders
from the Addon Scenery Folder

Jim

Hi John,

I wasn't aware that the Vixen came with Ark Royal (Ark Royal IV was released freeware) although this is logical :) If this is the one you're talking about.. look in the zip for the doc file_id.diz. This gives full instructions on the install routine ;-) Either way, make sure the OF files go ABOVE ArkRoyal in your scenery settings

Now that really DOES make sense Jim ;-)

John.. take the above as read then. Look for the file named file_id.diz and that, strangely, is the readme. Not sure if the mod is on Skysim but there is one available from Flightsim.com called ark2.zip. It's only a minor fix but worth adding ;-)

Thanks to all you Gents!

I have the scenery running nice and BEAUTIFULLY now. My first Catapult launch ever in FS and it's fabulous!!! The Freeware "Mighty Ark" from the SkySim site has no instructions whatsoever in it. It's an EXE file, you run it and nothing is included like the FILE_DZ mentioned before. It looks like this Ark Royal is an upgraded one from the version I checked out over at Flightsim.Com. I'm going to run a gamut of Naval aircraft off this thing and see how the landings go. The Catapult launch is wild! I programmed the arrestor zone using this "3Wire" program and it's really easy. {I was worried if the SHIFT F9 command will do something to my FSNavigator setup as that SAME command is used to activate a flightplan. But that seems all for naught as the "3Wire" program is externally loaded and not at all integrated into the FS9/modules directory at all } Takes all of around 2 minutes to program the arrestor hook landing zone. Just make sure you have the overhead view on and your slew mode going. It's a snap. I've never EVER been able to figure out catapult launches in FS before and now it's happening. Really nice!!

I hope someone does an HMS Eagle and HMS Hermes..and any of the Colossus class carriers.
I can see how this can become rather addictive.. ;-)

Regards and thanks again
John

John,

Thought I'd better answer here. As Ian and the nice guys who produced the Ark were good enough to allow us to offer the Ark as a freeware add-on I didn't think it wise or polite to interfere with it too much. What we have done is to install all the folders in the correct place and package it in an exe file. All you would have to do now is add the secenery to FS as usual, my apologies I thought the readme stuff was in there.

But you are correct, flying to and from the carriers is SO addictive. Have fun mate!

Hi Brian :)

Tks for clearing that up. As I said above, the readme isn't at all obvious.. especially as it's not listed as such. In desparation, I hit the file_id.diz file expecting it to be the brief explanation of the zip (as required by sites like Flightsim.com) but was extremely happy to find it was infact the install instructions :)

At least John is sorted and that's the important thing ;-)

Like John I downloaded the Ark Royal from Skysim after hearing that they have an auto-install for it (sorry, but just lazy)!!
The Catapult launch is wild! I programmed the arrestor zone using this "3Wire" program and it's really easy.
Where do you get this "3Wire" programme from and also how do you get the arrestor wires to work as I flew in to the Ark Royal.......touched down........and fell off the Bow!! :brick:

Any help appreciated as this is becoming a very expensive operation for the Navy.

Nigel.

Hi Nigel

I downloaded the 3Wire program from Simviation.Com.

The Filename is: 3wireSetup20.zip

{It's a VERY easy download and setup. You need FSUIPC to run it also.)

Search on that and there she'll be. Make sure you read the PDF file instructions included. You can install it anywhere on your hard-drive. Just make sure you click on and activate the program when you're running FS9. Then make sure to follow the instructions how to setup an arrestor hook landing zone. The catapult launch is the easy part, the landing part is the rather tricky one. Get that tailhook deployed..
