Fairey Barracuda Mk.V

Just been released by Kazunori Ito today is his latest creation, the somewhat forgotten Fairey Barracuda Mk.V. Initially we (myself, AndyG and Kazunori) had a little trouble in working out how the wings retracted (I even posted a topic in the FlyPast forum), but I hope you are all interested in the final result.

A big thankyou must go to Andrew for helping so much with this project, without his input it would not have been released today. Now, I'm starting on the next one.....and hey dont tell anyone, but its.....British!!

Best wishes to all,

Martin

Umm just noticed from the way the message was written above that its me that builds the aeroplanes and not Kazunori. Its far from that, all I do is supply him with the historical detail, colour schemes, photos and plans. Nothing more that that!

Its an air tail to keep the torpedo straight until it hits the water. Once in the water it breaks off. Don't think that that mark of Barra carried a torp. :dunno:

Best wishes

Just as an after thought was wondering after reading all material that it had the similiar engine as the Spifire ie

Engine type
Mk II
One water-cooled Rolls-Royce Merlin 32 in-line engine 1,640 hp
Mk III
One 1640 hp Rolls-Royce Merlin 32 engine

might put Merlin Sound into my Barracuda :flying: :flying: :dunno: :kissu:

Martin, some of us here would be very happy to help with this research, just PM me if you want any info, Brits are our speciality!!! It might have stopped those odd mix of markings I saw on the Mk.V earlier, not quite right I think.

Thanks for the kind offer...will let you know in the future. All projects are to be kept 'secret' until day of release (thats my brief) so requests unfortunately may be in the form of a PM to one and all. Makes it more exciting that way........I was a big fan and still am of Tim Conrad's creations (but the T-2 may be the start of FSX a/c only) and enjoyed the wait to see what came up on flightsim.com until he mentioned the out-house and from then the secrecy and expectation went straight out of the window. Hope you all understand.

As to the next project, well I somehow think I didnt quite remember the name correctly yesterday (nope it wasnt too many Christmas drinking......I spent yesterday flying all day in a Diamond DA40 Star and then a Robin 2160...so must put it down to old age) as having a look here on my lunch break it doesnt exist. Must have a re-read of his email tonight when I get home. I have a vague idea what it can be....

As to the colour scheme on the Barracuda, I havent had time to try the finished example out yet (due to sickly parents) so might try tonight. From what I've seen of a screenshot of the aeroplane, the scheme used was one taken from a profile and a number of photos in a recent publication. Will have to have another look to see what happened.

Best wishes to all,

Martin

Still not at home, but just had a look at the screenshots of the Barracuda on the outhouse and then after checking the reference material used for this creation, he has used the scheme for RK588: 325-LP, of 783 Squadron FAA based at Lee-on-Solent in the late 1940s. There is a three view colour scheme for this and a good quality photo in the Warpaint series to show the scheme off.

And as for the next project, I got it completely wrong, didnt I!!....but its still British.

Best wishes,

Martin

Hmm, the A type roundles on the wings look wrong to me, they are certainly not the correct shade of blue either. That can easily be overlooked, but I still have trouble with the unrealistic interior textures, British aircraft only went pale grey inside in the 1950's, and then only airliners

I can live with the suspect paint scheme and markings Trev, as most of it is easily fixable. Correcting the flaps, which take a significant chunk of the wing with them when they are lowered will probably be a bit trickier. :dunno:
