An Interesting Museum

Post by Pielstick »

I've just got home from visiting my girlfriend in Belgrade. While I was there we went to the Yugoslav Air Museum at Belgrade Airport. It was a very interesting place with some great exhibits. Here's some pics we took, the quality isn't great... It was late in the day and I'm not the greatest photographer in the world :)

The outside of the Museum:

Some stuff you would expect to see in a former Eastern Bloc country:

Something home grown:

Some familiar types in not so familiar markings:

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o39/ ... CN0480.jpg
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o39/ ... CN0552.jpg

I was surprised by the number of German aircraft there...

And now for the main event, this is what I went to the musem to see...

The wreckage of a USAF F-16C from Aviano shot down in 1999:

More wreckage, including part of the missile that shot it down:

Wreckage from the USAF F-117A shot down in 1999:

Various NATO UAVs and munitions recovered during 1999, including a shot down Predator, the remnants of a Tomahawk cruise missle, AGM-88 HARM and AGM-154 JSOW:

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o39/ ... CN0497.jpg
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o39/ ... CN0495.jpg

And finally, can someone please identify this aircraft:

It had no identification or info, and the museum had just closed so I couldn't ask. At a guess I would say it's a Convair type, but it may be a Soviet type that I am not familiar with.

Cheers!

Is it an Ilyushin? either an Il-12 or Il-14 if my memory of old Observers Book of Aircraft is correct.

What a fascinating museum, interesting exhibits, including the munitions. And the F-16, well, not something you see everyday indeed. Nice pics, thanks for posting.

Joe

The legend goes he had a weapon system door failure in the open position - would make the 117 look like any other aircraft

Nice museum and excellent photos - a Trop hurriane - now there is a rareity - supposedly they had a Sealand there for many years too
