The Riverdance

Hi all,

been up to Blackpool today with the missus to give the dogs a blast of coastal air. Whilst up there we visited the stricken Ferry, The Riverdance, which came to grief during the storms last week. The salvage operation is still being hampered by the weather and tidal conditions which in turn has seen a massive boost in visitors to the area to catch a glimpse of the old girl. Local businesses reporting all time high profits for this time of year.

I almost felt sorry for her as she lay helpless on the sand awaiting recovery. I was also surprised to see actually how close she is to the shore and I would imagine its going to be one hell of a job getting her cleaned up and afloat again. :-(

Heres a few snaps.

Sure is sad to see a ship stricken like that.

I was looking at pics on the paper the other day and wondering how on earth they were going to move the containers without all the other falling as they habe sort or locked into each other.

Nice shots of a very sad subject Eddie ;-)

Garry..
Getting the containers off will be easy. Just put half a dozen scousers onboard and they'll have em off before the tide turns! In fact.. they're probably already empty

Reminds me I saw the one that ran aground off Dorset last year the other week. If she's anything to go by the Riverdance could still be there for a long time to come. I'll try and get some phots next time I'm down there, now they've removed the mandatory avoid!
