Just popping by to ask if anyone else has suffered very low FPS with the new Ark Royal for FSX?

I usually get FPS in the high 20s when I lock it at 30. With Ark Royal sailing about 20 miles away the FPS drops to about 15. This is still the case when I'm flying blue water ops, circling the Ark, with only 10 miles visibility, no clouds and no land (or anything else) in sight. I'm able to land on like this, but as soon as I get near FlyCo (i.e. taxi towards the bow) the FPS drops dramatically, down to just 1.5. In fact I've never had FPS as low as 1.5, even in the bad-old early days of FSX with no SPs!

I figure I must be doing something wrong, or haven't read something I should have?? Any suggestions? Apologies if I've goofed up somewhere, somehow!

Andy....I am flying with the Ark in FSX and i am locked on 40 Fps and thats where it stays.....

Silly question mate....are you sure nothing is running in the background...?

I'll check the install but its pretty straight forward....

Nope, nothing in the background. I always make a note of shutting down everything I possibly can before starting FSX. Good suggestion tho...

You're a star Tony! You and I should MP on the Ark when I get it running ok... the only issue will be fixed or rotary wing! Ooo, now thats a toughy! ;-)

Well as you know i am a bit partial to rotary flying...... :roll:

OK i uninstalled it and then re-installed it with no problems......

Fps in this first shot was 37 FPS.....



And you are right....once on the deck the Frame rates dropped signifcantly....this is down to about 14 FPS.....



And this one pops upto about 22 FPS.....!



I have never noticed the drop before....maybe its all the animation on the deck and the 3 spinning radars.......

Maybe theres a glitch we don't know about...?

37 FPS eh?! That just isn't fair! I'm amazed you don't suffer any FPS hit, even if its not as bad as mine. Gotta get to the bottom of this one...

Not sure why you're only getting 1.5fps. I never had it that low on my old PC when I was testing it (dual core AMD vice the Quad I'm now using, same graphics card). However it's actually quite a badly built model from a technical point of view for FSX, for starters there are about 50 bitmaps (I don't think they're all used in this build but it's still a lot) this leads to lots of vertices being generated in the export process, it's really more of a test bed to see how the new carrier features in FSX work for future projects.
I'd be interested in seeing the specs of your respective machines to see if there's anything there. Having said that AT you seem to be getting the same sort of FPS I used to get away from the Ark, just not close up (I used to get around 7-10 which was about usable for landing).

Which service pack are you guys running FSX with? Like Techy, never had anything that low. :think:
