Cosford Visit

Went to Cosford today for the first time with a work colleague who is into plastic model making as there was an exhibition on today. Didnt exactly go wild with the camera, but heres a few real aircraft and some models (and a few other bits n bobs).

Image
Large model Hawk - wasnt sure if this could fly or if it was purely static?

Image
TSR.2 avionics bay

Image
VC10 model. Found two original Airfix BOAC standard VC10s for sale, £50 each!

Image
Javelin in the new hangar, one of only a couple of things you can almost take a vaguely clean photo of!

Image
Lenin embraces consumerism in the Cold War hangar

Image
Highly polished Lightning!

Image
Not sure how they got the Vulcan in there, it sort of looks stuck!

Image
Dakota

Image
The Comet escpaed the purge of the BA collection last year and unlike the Britannia, hasnt been painted in RAF colours yet but one wonders for how much longer it will stay like this? I know it was never actually a BOAC a/c but with none of those left, it seems a fitting tribute to a pioneering era.

Image
The other aircraft you can get a clear shot of is this rather nice Hunter Trainer

Image
Now this is seriously impressive! I saw XR222 at Duxford in bits 4 years ago, this looks like it should be on an apron at Boscombe, ready to take to the air... if only!

Hi Toby

Thanks for those :)

Comet should not be in BOAC as indeed the Britannia should not be in RAF livery :@

If they do keep it in BOAC, I hope they paint it properly :worried:

At least it's inside now :)

The Hawk models were impressive.how many were there????.at least two :)

Hi John

The Comet BOAC livery is not painted correctly.....proprtions etc all wrong :@

If they want a Comet in BOAC then it should at least be painted correctly.......

The Brit was in BOAC but again that was nowhere near accurate :@ :@

Absolutely great pictures, especially the Vulcan one. The Vulcan at Cosford was the first one I'd ever seen at that point, and left a lasting impression on me, it seems to take up the entire hanger and gives a good impression of just how big they really are.

Nice pics, Toby. Thanks.

I visited Cosford last year and really enjoyed it.
The one small point I would make, is I wish with the new building they'd provided more oportunity to view the aircraft from above.

Hope you had a good day.

Kevin

I agree, and the only viewing gantry there is appeared to be closed the day I was there. I understand the the larger you make the building the more costly it is and so I can see they would have to pack as much as possible under one roof which isnt great for photography.
