Planes of Fame at Chino, CA
Hello all,
while I am suitably jealous of the events on your side of the Pond today at Duxford, I dragged my family and in-laws off to Chino today for the Planes of Fame display. Let me stress the immediate difference: we damn near died in the 39C temperature, which was probably higher on the unforgiving tarmac that we camped out on, so the cloud cover at Dux looks decidedly appealing to me! After about an hour and a half we had to call it quits and took the troop home before the medics were called in. As I had my hands tied I couldn't get any decent aerial shots, but snapped a few statics, including some nice re-enactment action that was going on. They don't compare to the superb shots on the Duxford posts, but you might find them of interest:

What a trooper: Amelia suffered it all without hardly a peep, even though her poor face went an alarming shade of red by the end of it. :o

Great shots Steve.
Amelia is sure going to break a few hearts in a few years time. I have to say, she is much better looking than her proud dad.

As much as I love airplanes there's no way I would have been out in that heat today. I had to run an errand about 3pm (temp was about 100°F/37.8°C) and that was bad enough, no way i could have walked the display line without a paramedic in attendance!

Re: Planes of Fame at Chino, CA
She certainly put up with it well, poor thing. My in-laws warned me about the heat, but I still dragged the crew out there, perhaps unwisely. We had a mini-bus (of sorts) ride from the car park to the runway, which was fine, and Amelia loved that as it takes you right past a bunch of parked planes (and she loves buses). The heat was oppressive though on the tarmac, and I quickly realised my three month pregnant wife and little daughter were not going to last that long, so perhaps the whole outing was not the best of plans! Still, Amelia did enjoy it despite the heat, and went inside a lovely working C-47 twice, and was quite disappointed that only 'special people' could go inside the B-17 and B-25. I'll get some more pics of that on here later on.
And yes, she does outdo her Dad, thank you for that Graham.
I'm not sure about the Gnat, but it could well be the same one. Leif and Tarasdad certainly have the right idea about staying inside...this weather is not be taken lightly!

Indeed, Garry, 39 (more like 40+ on the tarmac) was a shade too hot. The paramedics told us that on Saturday there hadn't even been a breeze and that they'd taken a lot of people off for treatment. I think they took one look at the wee madam and agreed it was good to get her out of there. Still, that's one air show we won't forget in a hurry!
28 in the sun even sounds positively cool at the moment. ;-)

Great shots, Steve.
I understand why everyone is sitting under the wings, in the shade
Looks to be a good show to visit - maybe one year.
Cheers

It was a good show; as I was leaving I watched the Sabre and Mig 15 'dogfight' which was cool, especially seeing how close they got. There was a Sea Fury after lunch which I missed, along with a whole host of other beauties. Under the wings was definitely the place to be though - IF you could get the spot!
