Classic British Flight Sim

A couple of years ago Ben asked me to post a photo of the Lanc that was at Strathallan some years ago. A bit late, methinks.


Atmospheric? Nah, I just buggered up the exposure.



Every hole on the Shack seemed to be filled with a bird's nest.





This Mossie is now slowly de-laminating in the States.

Brilliant Steve. Very many thanks indeed. What ever happened to all the strathallan stuff? Was most of it scraped?

The Lanc was G-BCOH flown across from Canada......last heard of it was damaged in a hangar collapse after moving from there.

The Comet...well the nose is or was on the Gatwick roof in BOAC livery

Don't know about the Shack T4.......that was last used to test stroboscopic props hence to two fitted...........it was called Zeberdee because of the often bounce landing made...it was the last of it's type flying

Hi Ben,

Much of the Strathallan stuff was saved, a lot of it such as the Bolingbroke and Miles Monarch going to East Fortune. The Reid and Seigrist Desford (you'll have to google that one ;-) ) is in storage down sarf somewhere, and the Fairey Battle and Lysander went overseas. Air Atlantic now own the various Anson bits. I've a sneaking suspicion that one of the FAA HIstoric Flight Swordfishes came from here. I've a photo of it while at strathallan somewhere that will surface at some point. Sadly, the Lanc is no more. A roof fell on her while she was being restored at Woodford. Kermit Weeks has some, but not all the parts of her now. Maybe he will rebuild her one day? Both the Comet and the Shack were scrapped. Even if anybody had wanted them, removing them from Strathallan would have been a nightmare.

It's a shame though that they didn't at least save the fuse as it still had the square windows.

But what is her fate since the viewing area close.the polished alu was already corroding badly before the roof was shut :-(

As you say.....it was just too remote to move the exibits.

The Shack was a tragedy........a unique survivor.

At least you got them recorded

Last time I was in Florida - The Lanc was sitting in three conexs out back of Kermit Weeks museum - its now owned by the kind folks from Walt Disney so
lord knows if it will ever see the light of day again - The Weeks Mossie was pretty much written off during Hurricane Andrew I believe

Hi Leif,

Weeks loaned the mossie to the museum at Oshkosh. It was still there a few years ago at least. A museum in England has part of the fuselage of the lanc. I bet Walt disnae ken that, as we say in Scotland.
