Vickers Viscount 700 Flight Model...

Hi,
Been flying again the Viscount with an updated panel (v.4 Fraser Mckay (2006)). I may have asked this before a while back, but cannot find any old posts on it, so decided to post again.
Ok, I am having a bit of problems with the following:
1.) My no. 1 engine suddenly loses or gains power randomly on takeoff. I attribute this to something having to do with the fine pitch stops, but not sure. I am very gentle when advancing the throttles, but it still almost throws me out of the runway every time (asymmetric power I assume due to the power loss on no. 1). I took a quick glance at the torque, and it appears that even though the RPM's are right (~14100 for takeoff), the torque for No.1 (and sometimes one of the other engines), is rather low. Don't know whyt this happens.
2.) The flight model appears to either have incredibly big aerodynamic surfaces (extremely sensitive to wind) or calculate the plane as being incredibly light. I can accelerate to very high speed in a few feet on very little (two engine) power, and have trouble with even slight crosswinds.
3.) Is the ceiling limit for Viscount 700 really 17,000 ft? Can it cruise at a higher altitude? It seems rather oddly low for a 4 engined turbo-prop. Even a Connstellation coudl do 20K. Just curious

Hi Macs,
Not a full answer I'm afraid, but no doubt DB or fraser can help you out.
The aircraft is the original FS2002 model with some updates for FS2004 so the flight dynamics will not be of todays standard. Also pretty sure the Viscount was Ricks first model, so it may have even been for FS200 (or am I putting years on rick?

)
Basicly, the FDE, although updated will still be not up there with the latest offerings ;-)

Ben,
Do you know what is the maximum height(aircraft height, not cabin height), for the Viscount 700? I understand from the manual , it is 17000 ft. This cannot be cabin height, since 17,000 ft would put everybody to sleep permanently on the cabin. I find the 17,000 ft cruise altitude limt rather low as earlier piston-prop aircraft could go much higher. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Macs,
The only thing I can think of, if you're using Frasers updated panel?, is.. have you unlocked the flight controls?, it's a green lever tucked away on the right hand side.

Yeah, I have already checked that. I've found that for some reason, FSUIPC assigned controls are forgotten for an aircraft specific configuration for this particular plane. and it takes quite a few tries to "calibrate" the controls. I have already checked for conflicts with other assignments, but it all is clean. I suspect it may have to do with the single lever, do it all throttle control (fuel, mix, rpm, etc.) and the FSUIPC way of assigning all these functions. On a good note, I have got the throttles working a bit better, after calibrating the throttle levers a number of times in FSUIPC. Thanks for your input,

Hi,
Just out of interest, I've never used FSUIPC to calibrate or assign joystick/throttles etc. I have CH pedals and Saitek joystick/yoke/throttles and use their own utilities for calibration and the FS9 assignments to errr..... assign. I've never seen the need to use FSUIPC as everything seems to work perfectly without it. I did have a problem a long time ago with an aircraft, JM's 146 I think, where I did a calibration using the FS9 interface which opens the control panel calibration window and it did some odd things. Going 'outside' of FS9 and calibrating solved the problem. I have two quadrants on which I re-assign the axis' according to how many engines on the acft I'm flying, takes a couple of mins at most and don't get any probs.

Hi Macs..
It depends where you take your figures from but I have a service ceiling of 28,500ft for the V700 and 27,500ft for the V700D. Whether these altitudes would have been regularly hit, I doubt it somehow due to the nature of the 700's operations but it was certainly capable of doing so ;-)

It's some time since I've flown a 700, but it was exhaustively tested prior to release and wasn't suffering from the symptoms you describe then

The ceiling in the manual is incorrect and applies to aircraft with the no4 compressor deleted, which required a 17000ft altitude restriction, the figures Dave quotes are more accurate.

The 700 version I am using (panel driven I guess), does have a no.4 compressor, so I guess I can go higher. I was just going with the manual's data. Thanks to all for your input. I have actually go it working now after some trial and error. The only question I have now is where are the low stop lights, and where is the synchronizer switch for V.4 700 panel. I can synchronize without it, but as I remember it just was quicker that way. Thanks again for your help,
