Hi Tony

If you watch the BBC video

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7485852.stm

(The above is also linked from Garry's 'Vulcan Cleared to Display' post), they quite clearly state Waddington, RIAT and Farnborough as their priority shows.

Hope this is of help.

Enjoy the show.

Kevin

Yup..

Legends is not really the place for 558 though all there would be pleased to see it. Duxford have been promising 558 for so long now I've forgotten but if she's to display at ANY event.. it would be the main event of the year (Sept) and if not.. the final display in October. :)

The Vulcan being at Farnborough has brought back memories of my Dad taking us there every couple of years during the late 50s and early 60s when V bomber flying displays were one of the highlights. I remember one year three V-bombers (but can't remember which!) gave a demo of a scramble with the crews racing across the runway to start up from cold and all three were airborne in well under five minutes. Of course they were operational then and being in instant readiness to deliver a nuclear response was their main purpose, so the demo was deadly serious.

The longer serving members on the forum will remember Chris Fry who used to be a regular visitor a few years back. A long-serving, retired RAF officer he had flown all three types of V bomber and used to regale us with wonderful first-hand tales of his experiences on standby and on long-range flights. Unfortunately he was in poor health and we haven't heard from him from a long time. It would have been wonderful to gauge his response to the Vulcan's return. Cheers, Chris - wherever you are.

I made a collection of the stories he wrote on the forum and published them in a booklet for him, called Seagull Droppings (he also flew Sunderlands and once slipped off the wing which was covered in ... yes, you guessed it!). Hopefully, I've still got them somewhere, I'll have to have a look.

Sorry, Tony - gone a bit off track here. That's what happens in old age when memories get stirred up. I'm very excited about seeing the Vulcan again.

Ian

Has anyone heard from Chris Fry (toph) at all? I last met him at Tangmere about 4 years ago, he was living in Majorca a lot of the time then?
