Mobile Flightsim

Hope this is the right place for this post, if not feel free to move it!

After a short spell away from flightsim mainly down to computer issues, I decided to have a go at Installing FSX on my new laptop (The only set of Disks I have around, lost the FS9 ones a long time ago) and lo and behold it actually is half flyable and looks quite nice.

The Only Problem is, if I install fsx sp2 it wont run, but if I leave it with Just FSX SP1 on it runs fine :dunno:

Now I need to download the wonderful Beaufighter to take for a spin, and get back into the world of flightsim.

Anyone else run Flightsim of a mobile platform?, it certainly seemed strange to me to be flying around in Friday Harbour from the front room instead of sat infront of a big monitor and P.C!

Eee by gum..

We've had folk here report probs with the Beaufighter with SP2 NOT installed but installing SP2 has effed up the sim :o  :dunno: :worried: It's very much a 'Rock and a Hard place' situation I'm afraid. A reinstall of FSX then SP1 and SP2 cracked that problem but it's a difficult one to call.. especially if you have FSX well populated with addons :worried:

Hi James,

Very surprised to hear of problems with SP2. Can you tell us which OS your running and how the problem with SP2 manifests itself?

I use my laptop when I'm deployed, although I don't really have a lot of spare time. The only problem I have with SP2 on my laptop is it tends to crash on exit but I can live with that 'cos I've already used it! Mines a Toshiba Satellite P100-240, bought mainly because I wanted a big screen for watching DVDs.

My laptop won't run FSX Sp2 either. Sp1/1a work fine, but SP2 gives a error that the video card is not up to it. :brick:

Ditto. For some reason M$ forgot to include mobile video cards in the list of available ones for SP2. There's a post somewhere on the Alienware forums (Alienware produce Gaming specific laptops, starting at about £900) that their NVIDIA mobile graphics cards don't work. Which is somewhat annoying.....

My Intel 945GMA doesn't work either, so I'm sticking with SP1 (Which is better IMO!)

I run FS on a laptop with a nVidia 8600M GT card. At present I only run FS9, but I did install FSX for a few weeks to try it out. After a false start, it ran very well and the only reason I uninstalled it was because my type of flying is still better in FS9. It was nothing to do with the performance of FSX on the laptop.

The only difference is that I didn't install SP1 or SP2 directly. I loaded FSX, ran it a couple of times to bed it in. Defragged (important). Then installed Acceleration, which of course contains SP1 and SP2. I doubt that loading Acceleration without having loaded SP2 previously would make a difference, but I can only report that it worked on my laptop :dunno:

Hi Ben, Im Running Vista Home Premium (Not by choice, came with the new laptop) and probably thats half the problem. Other then that I have the same Issue as above, I knew it was "shared gfx" when I bought it so no big suprise, but didn't think that just by installing a service pack flightsim would no longer run.

No matter for the moment as Im happy enough with it working, but will keep my ears to the ground for any workabout.

Vista home should be fine mate, but the guys have hit the nail on the head with the graphics card, they just aren't designed for it. Fingers crossed you get some sort of work arround though. :)
