Dorset Rain

Well it has just stopped raining here at last.....!!!

I doubt if we hold the record for rainfall in the UK today but nevertheless, it has been phenominal....a whopping 60mm has been recorded in our rain gauge which in old money is well over 2" of rain.

To give you an idea of what this equates to, I found on a weather site the following facts for just 1" of rain (25mm):

25mm or 1 inch of rainfall produces:
1. Per Square yard- 4.7 gallons of water (21.37 litres)

2. Per Acre - 22,651 gallons (102,971 litres) of water
weighing 102.7 tonnes

3. Per Hectare - 55,971 gallons (254,441 litres) of
water weighing 253.7 tonnes

4. Per Square Mile-14.5 million gallons of water

i think you will agree....a fantastic amount of water must have fallen on the South of England over the last 24hours. They say every cloud has a silver lining so I guess a hosepipe ban will be ruled out for a week or so down here....... ;-)

Regards.

Hi Brian :)

Couldn't tell you how much we've had here in Royal Berkshire but suffice to say.. it was raining when I got up this morning and like Dorset.. it's only just stopped. What a NICE day off :@ No Brooklands for me so spent the day flying :worried:

Been Lucky :)

Thick dark overcast all day and windy but only the odd slatter of rain in the wind generally with a few short light showers in between. :)

I lied btw.. it actually hasn't stopped raining here as I just found out having taken the Lab out for a Jimmy

It can be as dry, hot and sunny as you like in Spain or anywhere else for that matter. I was born here in the UK and that's where I'll be planted (though SWMBO has plans to have my ashes lobbed into Pompey harbour) ;-) I hate sweating.. it's unnatural

It could very well be that we knicked a bit of it too. Last month was quite wet here (in Iowa); the weather service recorded 13.45 inches of rain (34.16 cm in the new money). Stayed mostly dry here, but others weren't so lucky in the eastern part of the state.

The worst bit here was the night we had 4 inches in a little over an hour. I would have been more than happy to share with you all.

Scorchio!

Its been bucketing down all day in Cambridge. The B-17 'Liberty Belle' flew over the city on Tuesday, the only half-decent day we've had this week.
