Whilst searching for something utterly unrelated I turned up this which might be of interest:

anyone else think it ironic that the devon outlasted the Bassett? (now there's a subject for a sim model)
anyhow,I think photo 58 was also taken at St Athan, chimneys are those of the Aberthaw cement works.

Sort of - remembering there are still two Bassets at Boscombe Down.
As for sim models, peering in to the very dim and distant - Shigeru Tanaka?

The Devon outlasted as the Basset was terrible aeroplane
Hard to maintain and laid out like a nightmare
Also used to hit the prop tips when grass taxying
The 206 was only successful really in the US after they had their guts stripped out and had new wiring and equipement fitted
RAF wanted to dump the type vitually from the outset....it was just not up to the military demands in normal sqn service :-(

IIRC they are used in the similar fashion to the ASTRA Hawks with ETPS. Sadly airliners.net only has half a dozen or so shots, the last in 2005, but I haven't heard anything else about them being retired.
This thread shows one on the 25th July 2008.

Bit OT, but back in the mob I once worked with a fellow techie who'd had a ..er..too close encounter
with the props of a Bassett while bending down to chock the nosewheels.
