Last I heard is they were still saving up for the fuel to make the last flight.......a situation that will not be improved in the current economic climate. :-(

I remember seeing a couple of those at Anchorage airport some years ago. Impressive looking aircraft.

Garry, the video you saw was of the last flight (landing at McChord AFB on the way to Travis AFB). They got the money needed (which wasn't as high as they thought as prices fell almost a dollar/gallon in the last month). ASB has some additional pictures on it as well of the approach and landing at Travis AFB (its new home).
They had wanted to continue flying the aircraft if possible (shorter flights are fairly financially feasible, however they discovered issues with the engines and wings that will prevent it from being able to fly anymore, so it will become a static aircraft, however there are plans to do some engine runs on occasion as these are the last operating aircraft-mounted T34s in the world.

Amazing ammount of prop noise for a landing! Sounds like an An-22.

Wasn't the C -133 also called the Cargomaster?The Americans certainly had some impressive transport aircraft.Remember the Douglas Globemaster? I Can't recall it's alphanumreic designator,may have been C-124.It must have been pushing the limits of what could be powered by piston engines.I wonder if there are any FS models of these aircraft? :think: EricT

Hi Eric
Yep the Cargomaster and the C-124 was the Globmaster II, The Globemaster being the single deck C-74. The current C-17 is the Globemaster III
I think this was a Douglas thing.....the C-54 for example was the Skymaster and the C-118 the Liftmaster.

I take it your are talking C-124 Globemaster II that would be quite a lump
