Go with Noakes...The Red Arrows

Ok.....So I am still with the BBC and came across this one of the Red Arrows.
Normally I would not have posted this as we have all seen them many times but what makes this so unique is that they are flying not the Hawks but the Gnat, so thought although this is fairly long 25 minutes it might be of interest to some of you.

Absolutely wonderful !!!
Presented, as only John Noakes can.
I remember watching this as a kid, glued to the screen.
Great to watch the Gnats again - one of my all time favourite aircraft.
Thanks for posting the link

Really enjoyed that!

When they were doing the practice at kemble there was what looked like 3 or 4 argosy's parked up.... not sure but something of that size me thinks.
Thanks for that

Hi Ben
A lot of Argosys and indeed Andovers were retired to Kemble as it was a major MU then.
I've not watched the clip yet but I guess that was the reason they were there

I recall that the Gnats size allowed a much tighter formation to be flown with nine aircraft. Never was quite the same with Hawks. Still have admiration for those who can fly the Hawks so well.

TV used to be so much more intelligent, it really puts the dumbed down crap people watch these days to shame. It seems to be a disturbingly modern phenomenon, I only grew up in the 80's and 90's and the things I recall watching seemed so much more full of information and (for want of a better word) intellectual than a lot of the every day guff on the idiot box now.

How do you think I felt growing up in the 60's then! TV was worse than being at school :o
I jest of course.. watching TV was ALWAYS better than being at school!

The trade test transmissions on BBC2 (prior to it starting) used to amaze me. I was fully conversant with the installation routines and problems such as convergence before I hit my teens
As a parent who has sat through years of childrens tv, I agree that the current drivel is probably as much to blame for the state of our youngsters as anything! Thank goodness they oiked it off the main channels and dispatched it to digital only (though I do miss Sponge Bob Square Pants and Hey Arnold) ;-)
