Beware! Beware! Suspected Spoof Income Tax reclaim

This afternoon I received an email headed 'Internal Revenue Service' purporting to have been sent by HMRC and indicating that a refund of income tax was due to me. To obtain the refund I was invited to contact a website the address for which did not look correct.
A bit odd anyway because I do not supply my email address to any official body.
On contacting the real Customs and Excise Office call centre by phone to check this surprising email I was advised to delete that email from my computer.
I was able to give the real HMC&E Income Tax staff details of the suspicious website address which had included the 'gov.uk' which would lead as lot of people to believe that it did come from a UK government office.
The official advice at present is do not be deceived by this or suspicious similar emails - mine even had a 'government copyright' note at the bottom - how could a govt. office have my email address when I had never supplied one? Be aware - be wary!
