Brooklands Vanguard Engine Run.. maybe!

Hi Guy's
The Historic Aircraft Association are holding a conference at Brooklands on Sat 15th Nov and our curator would like as many of the 'runners' to do their thing on that day.. including G-APEP. Noting that we've not even motored the engines over since June due to one reason or another.. we're in no position to be able to guarantee any of them starting but.. I believe we're going to give it our best shot. All the onboard systems are indicating 'GO', we have plenty of oil and fuel so everything is looking good at the moment.
I'll keep you all up to speed on this thread so provisionally.. pencil in Sat 15th Nov ;-)

Sounds good Dave
Nice to get a run in before the winter
Pity you can't power up the One-Eleven and The VC 10 as well

Hello Mate..
Well.. add the Viscount to that list and the Varsity and I'd be a very happy bunny

Pity about the VC10 and One-Eleven though. As both of these flew in.. you'd have thought a bit of effort would've been made to keep them in ground running order but sadly, this was not the case :-( Half of the Vanguard crew worked on VC10's and One-Elevens during their engineering days with BEA/BOAC/BA and the rest worked DC3's, Viscounts, Vanguards, Comets and Tridents so the expertese is there. That said.. I'm glad to have them all on EP ;-)

Indeed Dave
Although a Viscount ground running has problems for the 'ear'oles
Given the money....would it be possible to reactivate them or were certain steps taken for it to be unfeesable??

Yes.. a Viscount ground running does cause a certain amount of grief on the earoles but it'd be worth it ;-)
The Varsity has spent too long without running though given enough dosh.. they could probably get the engines to fire up. They're intact as far as I know. The Viscount (like the Varsity) came by road and is missing a lot from places you can't see.. eg, the engines themselves :o Both SYD and A4O have engines in place though both have suffered years of having bits rabbited off them. I suppose that money could get them going again but it'd take a hell of a lot. Now then.. where's my mate Richard Branson??

Hello Mate..
Yup.. flown in on 14 Jul 94 (for preservation) with quite light useage figures, fitting for a test aircraft but not one 'in service'.. TT in excess of 6,787hrs, 6,325ldgs. Compare that to Duxford's 510ED.. 40,280hrs.. 45,541lgds :o

Thank's Dave
She could have gone on for ever given those figures.
Quite a machine as well given that she flew as four types of One-Eleven, although the 670 wasn't much of a mod over the 475...new leading edge better hush kits and no doubt a different shaped knob on the gear stick

That'd be it.. with the option for neons around the windshield!!
Looking at Delta Golf's figures, SYD actually managed to get quite a few hours in by comparison. DG has 1435hrs 3mins total block.. 1282hrs 9mins total flying hours over a 7 year period though 514hrs 9mins of this was spent supersonic :o An interesting aircraft is DG being the 3rd British built Concorde and the first 'Production' airframe. It did much of the certification flying for type approval and holds many firsts in it's illustrious career. I'll go onboard it in 'finished' condition one day ;-)

Hi Dave
'DG was a very famous Concorde at the time.the one that went out and actually did the job the designers said it would.
A lot of the early BA promo pics were of DG as they snapped her at various locations
The Aifix model was of her too, giving the impression that she was an in service member of the BA fleet.
She did remain an option after retirement if BA ever needed an extra aeroplane but that never seemed a possibility unless they had lost one.
She is in a way the most desirable of all the 'airliner' Concordes.
G-AXDN always seeme an odd one to me. Sitting between the early standard but short of the production standard she did her stuff well, but it's hard to put a finger on something she stands for...............nothing really screams out when you see the reg.
