A night out

Post by DelP »

Actually just a walk up the road....

On the Friday after the 5th November, Bridgwater holds what is reputed to be the best lit Guy Fawkes carnival in the world.

This is serious stuff, the rivalry between the various carnival clubs in the town is infectious.

Judges line the route to award points....the various clubs have been working all year on their presentations.

Here's a selection from tonights offerings:

You definately live 'on the edge' there mate. Had that happened in Streatley.. the police would have been called and our local MP would've been invited to explain how such a thing could happen

Some of that looks nicely sinister. Excellent pictures, Del.

Nothing of note happening around here, a poor show really considering Guy Fawkes was born in York. We used to have two spectacular fireworks displays in Dundee that put anything I've seen anywhere (including big shows abroad) to shame, so I've really missed having nothing to do for the 5th this year.

Good pics Derek. When we moved to Edinburgh from Nottingham,we noticed that Nov 5th isn't celebrated much here but that's hardly surprising since it commemorates an event in English history which happened over 100 years before the act of Union. That doesn't seem to stop some of the shops trying to cash in on it though!ATB EricT :)

Great shots Derek. I'm sure most of that entourage passes thorough my mothers village, North Petherton. She always tells me about it the next day.

The Carnival hits 'Pethy' the following night ;-)

A very enjoyable night out and the heat from all those lights cancels out November's chill breeze ;-)

There's always something a bit magical about fire heat and light on a cold dark evening.....hard to describe
