TV flight
Did anyone see the Armistice programme on television the other day, tracing celebs reletives war histories. Phil Tuffnells great uncle was "a mechanic" in the RFC. So to better explain what the war was like for him they went to Shuttleworth and gave him a jolly in the Avro 504!!!!! A mecanic? They should have let him play with a spanner for a few hours.

Re: TV flight
I saw that and had the same thought!
My Grandfather was also in the RFC, family legend has it he 'dropped bombs through a hole in the floor'! However, the only photo of him during the war is of him as a corporal, as 'possibly' the admin guy in the Sqn (Brisfits?) office.
Records of non-coms from the RFC and early RAF were lost in the Blitz, so tracing stuff beyond what I have (discharge papers and medals) are difficult. I guess I should have played cricket instead of joining the RAF then
