Came across this video of a VC10 take-off from Las Vegas. Was it the man himself?

Love the sound of those Conways spooling up and down. Something magical :tunes:

As much of a treat it is for us to see VC-10s, I can never help think how great it must be for people in other countries, given that the RAF is now the only operator of the type. I'm struggling to think of any other ex-airliners that would fall into that category...

No other aircraft in that line up can offer as much presence and character as the VC-10 does. Just brilliant.

Long may she poke fun at the young touch screen trash that surrounds her. :)

Not quite so magical when you've had a pair of them fixed a couple of feet away from your left lug-hole for numerous 'spoolings', I can tell you! Image

But seriously, that sound sends a shiver down your spine, doesn't it? On the Las Vegas video you can make out the distinctive crackle which used to really make me go weak at the knees.

Thanks for those, Nigel - great stuff!

Ian :)

When DM and I were fortunate enough to get a flight in on a C1K.. the aircraft was empty except for 4 FD crew.. one bod doing checks on the FltEng.. a Steward.. Me.. DM.. and Tonks and where did we sit... right down the @rse end  It was probably very boring for Tonks but for me and DM.. NO WAY  I didn't have a digicam then and that is my only regret of a fabulous day :tunes:

I DO know what you mean though ;-)

That Montreal video sight and sound transported me back 40 years to VC-10s lining up on 28L (as it was then) at Heathrow. A 4 mile bike ride to the airport and then standing under the approach on the Great South West Road (long before they put up the plastic sheeting) listening to airband radios. Simple days!
