Missing accelerometer in FSX Chipmunk
I got out the FSX ChipmunkV3 last night for a blast around Christchuch (NZ) in MP mode with a mate. First MP experience in FSX and what a hoot! So much smoother than MP in FS9. Anyway we had a great time (even though I stalled mine at the top of a loop ) but for both of us the accelerometer gauge was missing from the top of the coming. The housing is still there, but the gauge itself seems to have been nicked whilst the aeroplane was hangared.
I don't remember seeing this problem before... Anyone else seen this and is there a fix? It's not the most important gauge in the world, but for such a fantastic model, I'd like it to be as perfect as possible.

Hello Mate
I see it too (or don't if you see what I mean) but never bothered chasing it down

Don't look down! There's also a hole in the floor where the compass should be.
I have a vague memory of a discussion about this quite a while ago and I think the outcome was that Rick was actually too busy to do very much about it. Still, it doesn't affect the way it flies and it is still the best Chipmunk for both FSX and FS9

Yup, I'm running FSX Acceleration and also have the compass and accelerometer missing. Any advice welcome...

Buy one from Rick.
Re: Missing accelerometer in FSX Chipmunk
I hadn't noticed the missing compass... But then most of the flight I was keeping my eyes on the leader.
Not to worry, the accelerometer isn't too important...

Re: Missing accelerometer in FSX Chipmunk
Least everyone was sat in the warm when all of this was going on.....remember RAF Chipmunks weren't fitted with heaters as I found out for myself last Saturday on a cold flight over the Devon countryside. Just the thought of having one, made it all a little bit more comfortable.
The week before sampled an Army one and that for some reason was fitted with a heater....possibly a civil mod.
Ah the joys of flying!!
Best wishes to all,
Martin

Re: Missing accelerometer in FSX Chipmunk
I've modded a couple of the bipmaps to "fill the holes"
The compass looks OK now, and works fine. There is a slight bit of texture "flashing", but it's better than the hole.
The g-meter displays, but no needle :-(
Unzip and copy into each texture folder. (Backup the originals first ;-) )

Excellent job! Workin' fine here. Many thanks Dave. Is this worthy of "uploading to all nodes", given that there are probably many who are interested in the Chipmunk but haven't read this thread?
While we're on the subject, how much work would it take (I have no idea) to make bump maps for Rick's Chipmunk? Can they be added to the textures without having to recompile the model? Just thinkin' aloud...!
Happy Weekend
Andy
