Derwent Valley - Dambusters training area

Post by VEGAS »

Hi all,

been out on my bike this morning. Did two laps around the beautiful Derwent Reservoir. Famous in particular as it was one of the training areas used by the Dambusters (617 Sqn) during practice runs for the 'bouncing bomb' during WWII. The whole area is huge and attracts visitors all year round. The RAF still visit and pass through here frequently at low level during training sorties.

Apologies for picture quality. I'm not a photographer and because I'm riding the bike, I don't want to keep rumaging through my rucksack for a camera so I armed myself with a little Fuji 8.1MP pocket camera. Ideal for stopping along the trail and taking a quick snap. :)

Wonderful photographs Eddie and stunning scenery too which is sadly lacking here in Lincolnshire.

Could spend hours just walking and taking in all that scenery.

Regards
Nigel.

Great pix Eddie, thanks for sharing. I am having a memory lapse at the moment - where is Derwent Valley?

Thanks for the comments.

Nigel, Derwent Valley, lies roughly half way between Manchester & Sheffield. Its just off the A57, which is nicknamed the 'snake-pass' as its a fantastic twisty and picturesque driving road. It used to be a national speed limit road but its now restricted to 50mph due to many accidents.

How lovely, Eddie. Stunning scenery and great photos. And a lovely new bike, too!

Looks like the weather was kind - I am extremely jealous.

Thanks for posting the photos.

Ian.

Ah, thanks for the info. Up North then, and I am originally from down South. Looks like beautiful countryside and I would have never guessed it was between Manchester and Sheffield! (Ducks) ;-)
