Thanks for that Ben, I've been trying to get my parents to ditch Norton for the last year this should do the trick. And cut down on their calls to the helpdesk. i.e. Me!

Thanks for the HU Ben... I can only hope that the deal stays with us until August - that was when I bought the same AV for SWMBO laptop and 2 of the kid's (those off to uni) laptops. Mind you even then it was a good deal at a shade over £30.

Regards,
Chris

Image Drat and Double Drat!!!!

I've been getting a pop-up reminder from Kaspersky that my 3xPC licence is due to expire. Following the link they offered me a 30% discount for renewal. $91!!

I was going to do it but couldn't log in to the site with my password and none of the passwords they sent me worked either. So I threw my toys out of the pram and bought the Eset Nod32 suite instead for £50 (3xPC). I really wish I hadn't read this thread, Ben! :-(

None of the AVs or security suites offer 100% protection. The AV Comparatives website seems to be the most respected independent comparison source for commercial security suites. Most of the AV manufacturers use these results in their advertising. The statistics can be interpreted in different ways so they grade the suites at different levels. Ungraded, Standard, Advanced and Advanced +. Eset (Nod 32) was the only one awarded the Advanced + grade, even though it seemed that Kaspersky, Avira and G-Data (all of them awarded Advanced grade) seemed to be better at pro-active detection.

http://www.av-comparatives.org/ Click on 'Comparatives' and choose November 2008 online results.

Avast professional was only awarded Standard grade.

Kaspersky is brilliant value at the amazon price.

Hmm.. Avast FREE isn't exactly FREE either. I believe you have to activate it via text message :o Whatever.. I suppose it's still cheap :)

My Avast was activated by e-mail licence code, nothing unusual - it regularly updates and seems to work well.
The free licence is 14 months - then you get another free licence via e-mail.

Okey doh. I was gonna put it on my daughters pc some months ago and I only found reference to the software being activated via a succession of text messages, which I have to admit I thought odd at the time. In the end, I put her on AVG instead :)

Need to bin the reading glasses and go for a pair of Jodrel Banks instead!
