I've just seen this on the bbc website. Got a feeling it could be Tutors from St Athan. :-(

Incredibly Sad News,
As a member of the ATC as well, and someone who has flown this aircraft, its especially sad for all involved,

According to the Licolnshire Echo they were from Cranwell. Quote from the paper:-
Andy Naysmith, group captain in charge of RAF flight training at RAF Cranwell, said the two aircraft originated from there.

Quite alot of conflicting evidence at the moment.
If it's true and it was an AEF then I'm shocked. As a former member of 8AEF (Cosford) my sincere codolences go out to the cadets and pilots and their families.

According to Wales Today on BBC1 the aircraft were local from RAF St Athan and were working an air experience flight for two teenage girl cadets who were also cousins, which somehow just makes the whole thing even more tragic.
The two aircraft came down close to built up areas on the outskirts of Port Talbot, about 20 mins from St Athan, and close to the M4 in one of the few relatively open areas in the locality, which is the only piece of relative luck in this tragedy. A few minutes either way and the wreckage could have come down on populated areas or into traffic on the motorway.
