Very sad news. The only time I saw it last year was at Farnborough on a day it wasn't flying

If it does go to the US I hope the Lottery Money sunk into it will be repaid (some hope). I don't begrudge them the money if the a/c was to stay in the UK, but if it going to entertain the Yanks lets have the money back and put into some other aviation project.

'Well give them a donation' I hear you say. My feeling is that they are going to be appealing for money every few months so lets bow to the inevitable now.

Man, this just isn't right. Not after all of the blood, sweat, and tears (and money) put into getting her airworthy again. It's just not right. :-(

Many, like me, have donated little bits over the years and have yet to see the darned thing in the air this time around as it managed to go tech at the drop of a hat. No problem as it has a (give or take) 10 year airframe life left so we're all bound to see it at some point.. or not :roll:

I'm stepping out of this discussion.

The BIG advantage to it going to the States is that they're far more pro-aviation the other side of the pond, or indeed channel to be honest. The gold plated bureaucracy in the UK really adds to the difficulty in getting anything out of the ordinary done.
I do wonder if the Vulcan is pushing the limit of what can be done for a single type single aircraft organisation, spares must be a night-mare as well as the lack of knowledge. Sure the guys working on it probably spent most of their working life's on it but there's been a big gap since then.
I think ideally they need another year to work the gremlins out of the system and then decide whether or not to continue, but in the current circumstances I can see getting funding even for that is going to be tricky. I've seen some threads saying it should be supported the same way as the Lancaster, which probably demonstrates a massive misunderstanding of the difference, but in the current circumstances I can see MoD support of the BBMF and the Red Arrows being looked at in some quarters.
