What the hell are these?!

Post by VEGAS »

Hi all,

can anyone explain these strange green coils that appeared very recently on FSX?

Seem to appear anywhere completely at random. Not just in GenX areas.

This particular flight was from EGCC-EIDW and was taken heading towards the Irish Sea.

Caused my crew to fear for their safety it did!

LOL...I don't think they have them in FS9. They are intended to be a guide for glider pilots. You fly circles within the 'coil' and get lift to allow you to fly to the next 'coil'.

I used to use them when I first started gliding in FSX but now leave them off and rely on the 'beeps' to tell me when I am in a thermal.

I know what thermals are Larry and how you use em (been caught in one while suspended from a parachute and it's unreal.. believe me) AND.. guessed that the visible variety are only available in 'As Real as it Gets'... FSX  We wouldn't have anything so crass in the 'Real' sim  Still.. I didn't know FSX had em until Eddies post ;-)

It got me for a while too. I was wondering while my little Cessna was climbing and then descending again by itself even though it was trimmed for straight and level with constant power
