Classic British Flight Sim

Today, I fired up FS9 for the first time in about 4 weeks :o :o , it seems I am now almost exclusively an FSX simmer! The addition of new hardware has made it much easier and with the addition of expensive add-ons such as Horizon and UK2000 sceneries, it does now seem a better simulator than my dear old much loved but now HUGE (heavily modded) FS9 .

However, here is the 'rub', to really get the best out of FSX (without even touching on hardware cost), I have to pay for pretty much everything! With a few (very worthy) exceptions :kissu: , pretty much all good FSX add-ons are payware!!

Added to that, I will soon have to pay for yet another HD to add the Horizon middle UK pack, to add Gary Summon's upcoming Vol 2 of his UK2000 airfields. Those packages will take up about 40 odd gig of space! Perhaps I will get rid of FS9 instead?????

I also spend much time in non-Brit airframes, because the developers now cannot afford to spend months working on models with limited appeal.

What I am getting at here (I think) is the cost of this hobby is drastically increasing, at a time when the world is collectively restricting its spending, will this kill off the hobby??

Good question... but not if more of us here pull together to make more British FSX freeware! ;-)

I can' t see more of us making Bristish Classsic FS.X as such because as it stands those of us with FS.X already do, those who don't like myself, don't have FS.X ........simple as that really. :think:

Ah, well, thats where I confess to being guilty as charged... an FSX user, who knows GMAX, but not producing much British freeware. I can't imagine I'm the only guilty one... and team efforts usually stand more chance of success.

I was really thing of those already producing here who still produce for FS.9

It will catch up oneday and with FS not going further ahead just yet will give things time to settle down.

Not being a massive FS9 user to start with and from a modellers perspective I really prefer FSX with all the extra options it gives me.
However, as we're discovering in the train sim community, extra complexity means more people want paying for the extra work.

I've got a couple of unfinished CB FSX models that you're all very welcome to have a play with.
I'll get around to finishing them off at some point when I need a break from making steam trains.

Yes expense is a big downer on FSX, to be honest FSX sits on my hard drive never getting an airing, I guess if I had not got FS9 I would warm to it, but having FS9 makes me realise that it has more pluses than minuses over FSX, freeware of high quality, features like previous flight saving, 2d cockpits that do not bring a pc to its knees, and most of all FSNAV which is the main reason I dont use FSX unless I want to hop around the UK in a little prop etc, which I don't do now anyway.
Now MS have killed any future for FS then I think FS9 will continue to be a strong performer, I also can see that devlopers continue to build for FS9 so its a long way from a wooden overcoat, in fact I guess FS9 users still outnumber FSX guys, who are realising you need very deep pockets if you want FSX goodies ;-)

I am currently lucky enough to be using Dave G's wonderful (almost ready) Auster Autorat (sorry Autocrat :o ) in my hangar, that is really a wonderful classic FSX model.

I just hope the rumour of a native FSX Cranberry from AS comes true, that is something I really miss and would shell out a few Euros on.

FS9 runs so smooth now, I really think I will have to shell out for a new HD, deleting it after all these years would be like killing a dear old friend!
