American Airlines "new" 737-800 cockpit

Interesting because they talk about two "new" safety systems that I am fairly certain have been available for many years on many aircraft. I know the DM's BAC 1-11 has the pressurization warning and since his models are so accurate, I am fairly sure the real aircraft had it.

HUD are not new either...although I don't know in what way that particular unit varies from other systems :dunno:

To be fair he is only saying they are new features on the latest 737 and I personally see no implication they are being presented as new deveopements. :think:

Ummm, he said there is an aircraft configuration warning system and that if the aircraft is not properly configured for take-off a warning will sound.........Nothing new in that...........DM beat them to it!! :roll: :lol:

Aircraft have always had a take off configuration warning...........the ground :roll: .

It has two modes......either the ground fails to dissappear or after dissappearing it comes back rapidly. This particular system has never been known to fail:lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Yes, but I have forgot which aircraft does that. A horn sounds if you start the takeoff roll and the aircraft is not configured correctly. In fact, I think that happens on a few aircraft in FS. I remembered the cabin altitude warning because I often forget to set it! :roll:

AA's installation is different from other aircraft. The horn is present on all aircraft, but normally both the cabin alt and config warnings are only displayed on the EICAS screen. Both Takeoff Config and Cabin Altitude warning horns have been required for years in the US.

Their HUD is slightly more "advanced" than the unit on other NG's as they've started putting the 787-style unit on their aircraft while the others have retained the older unit, but Boeing having HUD's on aircraft isn't new. Southwest pioneered the technology on the 737 and has them installed on their entire fleet (both Classic and NG models). FedEx even installed HUD's on a good number of its 727s as part of their program to make the aircraft CAT IIIa capable.

In the end, it's typical AMR - act like they're the first at everything even though they're the last to the party almost every time.

Aren't the config and cabin alt horns one and the same on the 737? I thought that was part of the 'confusion' of the Helios crew.

I think they're very similar, but not exactly the same. As with many things, a horn is just that - a horn. It only lets you know something is wrong and is only supposed to be a supplement to you then looking at the warning panel to tell you why it's going off. If it were really that big of an issue, then the Warning klaxon would have to be different for each different failure mode activates it, but that'd be too complicated. American simply took the step (as have several others) of moving the warnings from the EICAS to separate lights on the coaming to allow for quicker reaction to their warnings.

Just think you could have a panel with warning lights for all the important stuff. Have it somewhere central. You could call it a Central Warning Panel.....
