Vanguard Engine Run - for DaveB

I saw a mention somewhere (but can I find it) of a possible Tyne run up of Echo Sierra. I'd like to attend if at all possible. There is a slight issue that I live in the US but if the date was set far enough in advance I'd do everything to try and make the event (yes, it's that important to me). Is there a chance that this could be arranged for a fixed date, say, 3 or 4 month hence - for a Saturday ideally? Maybe with enough advance notice attendees could have a whip round to help pay for the oil or fire brigade cover or something? It would be great to get an HD camcorder and hi quality sound recording from inside the cabin, cockpit and outside as I have an awful feeling we're dealing with a very few remaining chances to do this.
Cheers,
Robin

Fire brigade?....They just hand Dave a fire extinguisher these days!

Ah.. a Tyne run up for EchoSierra
Two pictures to illustrate why this won't happen..
First, the inside..
And now the outside..
The only complete Vanguard in the world Robin is EchoPapa at Brooklands (Superb).. the aircraft on my sig.. and being a crew member, I can tell you (in all authority) that we have absolutely no idea when we'll run the engines again. We have a number of issues that won't go away which mean that in all probability, we will never run 4 engines again. The plan is for us to run 2 (3+4) at some point in the future but I honestly couldn't say when. Thank you for the kind offer of a whip round for fuel and oil but we have enough of both to actually fly somewhere. However.. with only 2 engines and being situated in an aeropark, the chances of us flying are less than winning the lottery
H&S plus insurance mean that we cannot take Joe Public onboard during engine runs I'm afraid.
So.. there you have it. When I know, I'll post here first. Thanks for your interest ;-)

I love the way you illustrated why ES won't run again, Dave! (Think he meant Echo
Papa.)
Sorry to hear that all 4 may never run again on yours. :-( However, two can still produce just as lovely a song.

I hope he wasn't offended Chris as no offence was taken or meant ;-) It's just a matter of fact that there are only 2 (reasonable) Vanguard 'bits' left.. ES being one as illustrated and EP being the other. Two trainers exist (951/953 at Bournemouth and 952 at Brooklands)and the nose section of Ajax (EJ).. similar outside to how 'Swiftsure' (ES) looks but a darned sight worse on the inside at Brooklands. Few folk know of Ajax in reality and why should they. It is what's left of Ajax and little more can be said about it ;-)
With regard to EP.. it's one of those situations where there are wheels working within wheels. I get frustrated.. very frustrated by much of what I hear.. especially as one party will quote the exact opposite from week to week  That said, I do my best to be 'in' with both sets of wheels so bite my lip a lot.. a hell of a lot. Nuff said before poo hits the fan ;-)
We've been asked when we can do the next engine run.. in fact engine runs and as of last Wed, the team leader was non-commital. However, that was a week ago and a lot can happen (while at the same time, not happen) in a week. I'll find out more tomorrow (Wed) but in two parts.. a consequence of the wheels within wheels. I'll do what I usually do and find a midway point then be wrong with both sides ;-)

Nice one Tony. I don't recall having seen that before

One day.. digicams will be able to run at 11,000rpm to keep up with the props!
BTW.. the chap you see walking in front of EP wearing the headset started his aviation career with BOAC on Haltons :o After a brief spell in the RAF.. he rejoined the aviation industry on his demob with BEA ;-) He was 77 a few weeks ago

Oh yeh.. no problemo there matey ;-) I'm not sure how difficult it will be to get the 'back door' keys to the strat chamber (I'll check tomorrow) but if I can get em.. I'll drag you in and show you the 952 trainer (plus what's left of the 1-11 -big boys mechano- trainer plus THREE Concorde galley's) ;-) I'd love to get you into the Valiant but even though I have no intention of 'reproducing' at
any point in the future.. I have no desire to glow in the dark either!
