Thar She Blows!...

I was flying my Auster out from Haines to look for and land at an unlisted strip:-

It looks just like a road through a village!...Anyway, on the way there I spotted some whale spouts and flew over to investigate.

How exciting...I'm pretty sure they are Humpback Whales and...

...that one is Broaching!...Well!!! I wonder if they are the same ones you saw Ian? Excitement over and back to my approach to the...

...unlisted strip. I see it has a nice little harbour with a long pontoon, which a floatplane is just leaving.

I'm forced into a rather steep glide approach because I have just come over a high mountain peak.

Nice little bridge to the pontoon, which has a bit of piling and some boats on the inside.

I think it is an airstrip in a village and I bet the odd vehicles nip across those crossroads!

Rounding out now for hopefully a smooth...

...Touchdown.

Oh yes that is very nice...I must come here in Little Bandit with the bolt-on floats
Thanks for looking :flying:

Looks like a nice secluded area for some rum running
I can't say that I've been there before, and I've explored this scenery quite a bit...

It was certainly a new one for me Jonesey...I got it from a German set of flight plans...I happened on the whales by chance

Well, they look like the same pod of whales to me, Peter. I recognise that ugly one with it's eyes too close together!

But I didn't happen on them by chance - I downloaded them and installed them from Avsim after reading about them in the Glacier Bay forum. Perhaps you did likewise a couple of years back and forgot about them.
As I got them from Avism, I expect they are now gone to that great whale graveyard in Davy Jones's locker along with Moby D*ck (see how PC I can be?

). An endangered species, I'm afraid!

Ian...I notice that I have two files called Whales.BGL and Wales2.BGL. They date back to 2004.
Yes I have just decoded them and Whales is a group of three whales and Whales2 is a group of four...The models are included and I also have the textures...I think I will place a group in Russell Fjord near McLeland Field :flying:

Yes, that's them, Peter. Both bgl files are in an add-on scenery folder called Add-on Whales (unsurprisingly!). By default one pod is near Haines and the other pod is off SW Washington State. This excerpt from the readme is the only guide but there is a lot more specific guidance in the Glacier Bay forum.
Whales-gmax for FS2004 ONLY. This scenery places a pod of whales on the SW washington coast near 7W1 Port of Ilwaco and another near Haines, AK (fly to the navaid "CPE") and look for them.
