Classic British Flight Sim

Whilst enjoying a leisurely VFR flight from Gloucester (Staverton) EGBJ using the Gen X VFR Photographic Scenery in FSX, I saw an outline in a cornfield that looked like an aircraft....on closer inspection at less than 1000', I could see that it is what appears to be a Hercules in a field.

This being at a place called Bibury Farm. Obviously when Gen X or whoever mapped the UK with photos, they caught this aircraft lurking on this corn field. The thing is....it is not too far from RAF Brize Norton so it appears to have been a 'casualty' but can anyone throw any light on this?

Not seeing any obvious hedge damage etc, I would have thought that a military aircraft would have been dismantled rather sooner than allowing the crop of corn to grow all around it!

The co-ordinates are:

Lat N51' 45.76'

Lon W1' 49.14'

Do take a look and see if you can see it.

I don't have Gen X but I just took a quick look all around that area in Google Earth and saw nothing (well, apart from the usual fields of course ;-) ).

I suspect that Google Earth will be more recent that Gen X photo's so that may account for it not being visible.....

My thought is a low flying aircraft looking like it's in the field :think:

This is most likely an airborne Herc photographed by the GetMapping aircraft flying above it. You can see the shadow of the Herc offset a few hundred yards away

Just had a spin up in the Ultralight to find it. It looks as though it could be possibly in the air. Seems rather too bizarre to be randomly placed in a field in such a way. :think:

Yes...I can see Jims shot showing the shadow now (top left).....he was very low.... :o

I used to work down there. Seen some VERY low Hercs about, close to the M50. Certainly brightens up the day when you see the RAF at work! With the recent cutbacks, maybe they should fly at the weekends and have the weekdays off. I'd have a chance to see more of them then!
