Classic British Flight Sim

A few recommendations from me:

BAe P.1216 Supersonic ASTOVL Aircraft by Michael Pryce (available direct from author at http://www.harrier.org.uk/P1216.htm ) is a fine study of a weird and wonderful supersonic Harrier-beater that was never built.

Vulcan's Hammer: V-Force Aircraft and Weapons Projects Since 1945 by Chris Gibson - more 'what if' madness showing off some of the varied weapons proposed for the V-force and some other British cold war aircraft. Some of them really have to be seen to be believed, including Phoenix-toting Vulcans and transports toting anti-shipping missiles to be dropped out of the rear ramp. Great stuff.

That list of reviews has got rather longer since I first posted this, so I thought I would post it again, in the hope that someone here might read it

I've recently finished the Damien Burke / Crowood TSR2 book and can recommend it! The only downside for me was that the first bit detailing all the other submissions seemed a bit long winded, I had trouble keeping track of all the versions and associated numbers. Once you get into the TSR2 story it reads like a novel, a real page-turner.

I knew a bit about the TSR2 program from reading articles and two books by Roland Beaumont but this book really details the whole story from beginning to end, and it has enough tecnical detail to keep me wondering if it really would've made such a great frontline aircraft.

I've just finished reading ' From Bouncing Bombs To Concorde' by Robert Gardner ISBN0-7509-4389-0 which is the biography of the late Sir George Edwards.I think this book may have been mentioned here previously.He became chief designer for Vickers ultimately and became the kingpin of BAC.
His involvement with the design of aircraft such as the Viking,Valiant,Vanguard,VC10,Concorde,BAC1-11 and others projects such the V1000 and TSR2 and the battles with politicians make brilliant reading.I managed to get a used copy from play.com for about £6.It was published in hardback in 2006 after Sir George's death at his request.EricT

I picked up a very nice read the other day in a second hand shop here in B.C. and apologies as it is not Brit related in any fashion whatsoever ..... oh wait.... it's written in English.
Cannibal Queen by Stephen Koonts. A tale of hamburger flights in an old Canadian Stearman through all U.S. states (barring Alaska and Hawaii).

Just finished the excellent'Dambuster ' by Robert Radcliffe ISBN 978-0-349-12334-9 which although fiction,is very closely based on actual characters and events.The story involves a fictional aircraft,crew and others but features actual crews and others and is very well researched.Additionally it raises one or two scenarios which may well have been based on more recently available info.It is a recent book,published in 2011 and in paperback in 2012.If there is one of those discount bookshops near you eg Book World or The Works a new copy can be bought for £1.99.
This author has written other excellent books such as 'Under An English Heaven' which has been mentioned previously here.

The 30th Anniversary of the Falklands War edition is now out and there are some more good reviews at the website above.

Great collection of books so far but has anyone managed to find the equivalant quality for Kindle Ebooks. From searching Amazon it would seem there are very few as yet.
