It's nice to read that he passed away peacefully. After what he'd been through in his life he earned that. Rest in peace Mr. Patch. :-(

RIP.

His biography "The Last Fighting Tommy" is worth reading. An ordinary man but an extraordinary life.

It is truly astounding when put into perpective.

Today is the centenary of Bleriots flight...Harry was Eleven

Had he been at Kittyhawk at the age of five he would have remembered the Wright brothers flight.

He retired in 1961........

It also demostrates how much life the fallen lose, most of them robbed of perhaps 50 years, some more some less but something we all need to be aware of.

Harry, like so many, including my Grandfathers were never that comfortable with their survival, but carried a guilt of those they left behind.

We don't know how lucky we are.

Rest in peace, Harry.

Only one British WW1 veteran left now, so it won't be long before they have all gone over the top.
