Hi RAF and welcome aboard. :)

I've moved your question here as its a more appropreate place for it. I assume your using FSX?

If so, the repaints will usually come in the format of a zip file. You need to extract this, ideally to a temporary location first. Next, within the extracted files there will hopefully be a folder named "texture.*" (where '*' is the name that the repainter has given his texture) Lets call this "texture.raf" for example.

You need to copy this texture.raf folder and place it into the aircraft folder. So, lets say this is for an aircarft called "Hawk"

Navigate to your main FSX directory the down into ..\simobjects\airplanes\hawk and paste the texture folder to this location.

We now need to tell the aircraft configuration (aircraft.cfg) file about the new repaint.

Usually the repainter includes a text file with the information that needs to be added to the aircraft.cfg. this maybe included in the readme file for the repaint.

A Your looking for some text that looks like...
[fltsim.xx]
title=FSDS3 HS748 British Airways Landor AZSU
sim=HS748
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=Landor_SU
kb_checklists=HS748_check
kb_reference=HS748_ref
ui_manufacturer=Hawker Siddeley
ui_type=HS.748
ui_variation=British Airways "Landor" G-AZSU
visual_damage=1
atc_heavy=0
atc_id=G-AZSU
atc_airline=SPEEDBIRD
atc_flight_number=8517
prop_anim_ratio=1.26
description=cn# 1612 Series 2A/232 "Glen Clova/Gleann Clovaigh" Painted by Rick Piper.
Note the example above is for Rick's HS748, but the text will have a similar format for any repaint.

Next, open the aircraft.cfg file contained in main FSX directory the down into ..\simobjects\airplanes\hawk.

You will see a few textures listed in there already, eg.....
//HS780 V1.0 22nd October 2006 ;o)

[fltsim.0]
title=FSDS3 HS780 46 Sqn Cammo.
sim=HS780
model=C1
panel=
sound=
texture=cammo
kb_checklists=HS780_check
kb_reference=HS780_ref
ui_manufacturer=Hawker Siddeley
ui_type=HS.780 Andover C1
ui_variation=46 Squadron Cammo 1974
visual_damage=1
atc_heavy=0
atc_id=XS645
atc_airline=
atc_flight_number=
prop_anim_ratio=1.46
description=cn# SET29 (Andover C1) Painted by Rick Piper.

[fltsim.1]
title=FSDS3 HS780 RAE Ripple.
sim=HS780
model=C1
panel=
sound=
texture=ripple
kb_checklists=HS780_check
kb_reference=HS780_ref
ui_manufacturer=Hawker Siddeley
ui_type=HS.780 Andover C1
ui_variation=QinetiQ - RAE Boscombe Down 1980-2006 "Raspberry Ripple"
visual_damage=1
atc_heavy=0
atc_id=XS646
atc_airline=
atc_flight_number=
prop_anim_ratio=1.46
description=cn# BN30 (Andover C1) Painted by Rick Piper.

PASTE TEXT FOR NEW REPAINT HERE

[General]
atc_type=BRITISHAEROSPACE
atc_model=A748
editable=0
performance=Maximum Speed 250 kts @ 20,000 ft\nCruise Speed 220 kts @ 10,000 ft\nEngine Rolls Royce Dart Mk201 3245 shp\nPropeller 4-bladed Dowty - Rotol constant speed\nMaximum Range inc reserves 2,700 nm\nService Ceiling 23,800 ft\nFuel Capacity 3240 imp. gal Max Ferry\nEmpty Weight 26,700 lb\nMaximum Gross Weight 50,000 lb\nLength 78 ft\nWingspan 98 ft3 in\nHeight 30 ft 1 in\nSeating 44 troops, 30 Paratroopers, 18 Casualties & 3 medical orderlies\nUseful Load 14,000 lb inc Vehicles up to 10,500 lb\nCrew of 3.
Simply paste in the text contained in the repaint file (A) above between the end of the last [fltsim.xx] and the next sub heading, see example above in red.

Then change the the text line in what you have pasted in from [fltsim.xx] to the next incremental number... in the example above the new repaint would become [fltsim.2]

then save the changes and your good to go. It may sound complex, but once you've done a few its a the staple of all flightsimmers. Let us know how you get on.

All the best.
