How long ago is it since Victor XM715 made a bid for freedom...early May I think, yet only now - today Wed 9th September 2009, has Channel Four News (Noon edition), here in the UK decided the incident is news worthy.
Apart from it not saying when it happened - could have been last week!!! The story seems to be a rehash - and inaccurate at that, of the Article/Interview with Wg Cdr Bob Prothero, (pilot on the 'day'), that appeared in the August issue of 'Fly Past Magazine'.
If this is the best Channel Foir news can offer, inaccurate sensationaistic half truths, then I am gald I do not work for Channel Four/ITN.
'East Midlands Today' our local BBC evening news programme carried a more sane factual account of the incident this eve.
The reason for the report today was the release of the results of the C.A.A. investigation, they said.
"The pilot (who was praised in the report) was accompanied by an engineer in the co-pilots seat, whos job was to close the throttles at the appropriate time. Seems he 'froze' hence the inadvertant lift-off until the pilot could do the job for him. In future boths seats must be occupied by qualified pilots."

Ah ha! I was wondering why this was on the Channel Nine TV news last night here in Sydney. This channel advertises itself as breaking all the latest greatest news and I was completley flummoxed as to why they had this on after all this time. Now at least it's confirmed.. the Aussie dumb TV stations and journos do slavishly follow the Pommie dumb TV stations and journos. They haven't managed to spin it so that we won the Ashes though
