Given that there are industrial disputes on at the moment....
I've been waiting two weeks for the arrival of my seven-hole Doc Martin steel toe capped work boots ( the boots my employer provides are cr*p and as you all know, boots are important

)
In the meantime I've had two book deliveries that took 3 and 4 days respectively..not Royal mail. I've had a postcard from Italy that took four days to arrive.
I have three letters that I need to pass on as they are not for me, not even close
Post office being stupid?......nah, just the way it is..

They have their moments round here too. I got a card left through my door telling me an item for me had insufficient postage so I must pay £1.00 handling charge plus 6p extra postage. Apply extra stamps and send to Sorting Office. I did that and two days later they delivered that very card complete with my extra stamps. Not being in the mood to play sillies I called in a Her strike which put an end to their antics.

Don't talk to me about Royal Mail. I'm about four months into a dispute with them about their 'Special Delivery Next Day Guaranteed' product!
The present Mrs Speedbird fancied a holiday using Tesco Clubcard vouchers. Booked a week in Turkey with her mate using Cosmos, paid a deposit and sent the balance in vouchers (£1600 value). She took out extra insurance to increase the amount covered to £2,500. Cosmos hold the booking for 5 days to allow for delivery. How long do you think they took to arrive? I'll tell you - FIVE WEEKS!!!!
By which time Cosmos said they wouldn't accept them, Tesco cancelled them and credited the points back and the holiday deposit of £300 was lost. And the holiday - unless they wanted to pay £1600 in real money (which they didn't!).
So, you'd think that having taken out insurance that Royal Mail would re-imburse the deposit, right? Wrong! The insurance only covers the contents of the package i.e. some bits of paper with numbers written on them. We've had the postage and insurance costs re-imbursed and compensation for the delay. £7.40 + £10.00 = £17.40. Apparently we should have taken out 'Consequential loss' insurance to cover the consequences of it going missing. Which means that to insure myself against the possibility of Royal Mail not doing what they have promised to do in a guarantee, I have to take out TWO different insurances which they do not clearly advertise.
I tried to get legal advice but apparently Royal Mail operate on a Royal charter which puts them outside the normal legal process and complaints and claims have to be escalated through internal processes, which inevitably have generated the same negative response every time, and then to the Ombudsman. I'm in the process of writing to him next.
The irony of it is that she booked another, cheaper, holiday independently and paid cash. In the same post that her tickets arrived, she also received tickets for the cancelled holiday from Cosmos who seemed to have forgotten that they'd already cancelled it and that the vouchers weren't valid. You couldn't make it up.
I hope Royal Mail collapses and that private companies get the chance to compete properly for the business. Sod 'em!

I have to say since I've moved to Wales and are served by Post Brenhinol (Brenda's Post) deliveries are much better, helped partly by my postie living round the corner, but genuinely I can't recall the last time I had a problem. Now when I lived in Norfolk not only did we get deliveries mid afternoon, but Norwich and Great Yarmouth did great work to lower the Post Office delivery targets and routinely lost mail I knew had been posted. Best one was when a relative posted two birthday cards to me from Walsall - both first class, both identically addressed, both posted the same night in the same box. They arrived six days apart. According to people I'm still in touch with over there, it's still the same.
So, if you want a decent mail delivery service, move to Fairbourne! However, we're still waiting for our branch Post Office to reopen in a new shop after the previous postmistress and her husband made off with £64,000 from the till...

We live in the middle of nowhere - 6 miles to the nearest shop and - apart from having to wait until around lunch time for our post - we are very lucky. Our postie uses his common sense and drops parcels with neighbours or puts them in the shed and leaves a note for us. Not onlly that but come rain snow or shine he always has a smile on his face and a cheery greeting.
The Post Office on the other hand are plain stupid. We lost our local post office in the last round of 'efficiency improvements' which means a minimum of 6 miles to get pensions or stamps - thought the idea was to make us stop using cars??? Anyways, we lost our appeal and the little Post Office we had closed down but - and I kid you not - the day before the closure the engineer arrived to upgrade all the computer kit in the post office. You really couldn't make it up.................

Having posted my moan about the Royal Mail in the interests of fairness and balance I must report my latest experience of their service. On 16th Sept at 0841 I ordered some pet medicine from a company on Guernsey. At 1215 on 17th Sept I received my delivery. Well Done Royal Mail (And PetMeds)

You will all be relieved to know that I collected my boots from the Post Office this morning, have taken them shopping and am currently giving them a good workout prior to applying the Kiwi and bulling the toecaps.....
They've been sitting in the Post Office for two weeks because someone neglected to leave a card saying they tried to deliver
Excellent customer support and follow-up from the supplier:

Well, like all humanity, there are people who make mistakes in the Royal Mail, and daft ones at that. On the other hand, if you look at the millions of items they deliver daily, the vast majority of which arrive without problems, it has to be pretty good value for money.
There is lots going on in Royal Mail right now (mostly bad), but I'd be willing to bet if it was fully privatised people would be up in arms, as there certainly will be a decline in what service is left. Incidentally, as it currently stands, RM deliver the 'last mile' IE to your door - regardless of who has their sticker in the envelope - IE these campanies are creaming off profit and RM is left with the expensive part of the job with less revenue. There is still some uncertainty (if privatisation went ahead) that it could ever change (IE a national 'delivery' network IE RM). In other words - a shambles.
It's a real downer when the RM let you down (it's happened to me) - but in reality RM is just about the best postal service in the world.
I do have some interest, as two family members worked for many years in the post office. You would be amazed at some of the stories and the utter stupidity of management.

Well today I saw the other side of the scale. Somebody had issued a default notice on somebodies home insureance policy because they owed 2p... They were not best pleased.
