My Microsoft day...

Well, double whamy today. My Windows 7 Ultimate arrived and has just been installed fresh and it detected everything and works a treat. I had the RC1 before and its every bit as good as I expected. Haven't put FSX on yet as I've a hardware problem with my second drive. Also my 120GB Zune arrived today... I'm happy as a pig in poo! Needless to say the Zune was ordered before the car went TU

The sound quality is superb! Same NAD amp and Mission 760iSE's as before, but what a difference in sound quality!

Ben..
Forgive my ignorance but WTF is a Zune??

I gather it's some sort of audio device as you mention sound quality

I suppose I should Google and see what pop's up
Don't let that drive problem force you into a 300GB SSD now will you

I wish Dave! A 300GB SSD would probably cost more than a new car
Yep, Zune is microsofts Media player, was only ever released in the US. There is speculation that the new version (Zune HD) will be released globally at some point next year, but its no good to me as the largest one is 36GB. The one I bought is the last incarnation 120GB player. Its just an easy way to play all my music without having to switch on the PC or Xbox. I looked breifly at the ipod, but like all of the other players out there (we'll most of them) they don't list album tracks properly. i.e. If i take an Album, lets say DJ Shadow's "The Private Press." There is a load of stuff on it by other Artists, so if when I browser through iTunes to DJ Shadow, and then select "The Private Press" it only gives the tracks on the Album that he did on his own... this is dog poo, albums should be listed the way the artist intended. If you browse for the album by name, you'll get all the tracks, but i can't remember the names of half the albums i have so its about as much use as a chocolate fireguard.
the Zune on the other hand, plays what I want when i want, and it doesn't need to convert down my tunes from WMA pro to play them... and its a thing of beauty

And so do I Garry
Tks for the explanation Ben.

As good or bad these media players are, it all boils down to what you want to see and how you want something to work. If it ticks all the buttons.. what more could you ask for. I dislike Media Player for the very same reasons but use it on the new(er) pc as I CBA to load anything else and it shows nice pictures of the albums

When I was 'into' this sort of thing (on the pc anyway) I always liked the way that Real Player put all 'like' artists in the same place without me having to fiddle and fart around and likewise, all stuff by the same artist in the same place.
Anyway.. now Win7 is out, it's nice to hear everyone saying how cr@p Vista was. Glad I missed that one out despite everyone's protestations on how bloody good it was

Well.....
...my Windows 7 Pro arrived last Friday and the clean install was very quick, immediately connected to the internet, found my home network with my old machine and I was transferring stuff in no time at all
I was keeping quiet till I heard from someone else

Hi Guys,
Got my cpy of W7 (cheap version) too. One question, which version is best? I have two discs, 32bit and 64bit. Not going to instal just yet as I'm toying with new CPU and possibly a new GC and memory. I'm thinking 64 bit so I can use more RAM ?
Regards
John

Well mate.. if you want to use more than 3gig, 64-bit is the only option. Does that narrow down your choice any??
