PC upgrade

Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade my Athlon XP+ based rig to something more modern and liked the idea of this overclockers bundle

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu ... =FS-002-OB - any opinions ?

On a budget of £500 I reckon I may just squeeze in the two new SATA drives and a £100-ish video card, perhaps a Nvidia GTX 250 ??

Hi Degsy, before you jump can your PSU handle the power load and is your case big enough for the 260?

Regards,
Chris

Hi,

I just replaced the PSU with a 750watt since its predecessor died. The case is a standard tall tower

I Bought this from them
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu ... ubcat=1334

Its superb. I have with an easy bios update to F2 managed to unlock the other two cores and its excellent value for money. I would suggest also going for
two of these

This is a carcking card already pre overclocked and I also bought this.

That will keep you inside of £500 approx.
You will not be disapointed.

Any questions just ask
Tony

Tony,

That's very helpful thanks. My current rig has IDE drives and although there are two SATA power plugs on the PSU I don't have any SAAT data cables. Do they come with those drives or will I need to buy them separately ?

Degsy..

You have to buy the drives separately mate as that setup is what they call 'bare bones'. It has the makings in place but you add the rest ;) The mobo in that kit only has one IDE port by the looks of things but this is enough to run 2 drives.. 1x Master and 1x Slave. TBH.. you're not doing yourself any favours sticking to IDE drives but I appreciate if you don't have the dosh, then needs must ;)

The kit came with two sata data cables bright orange! So with your new PSU it should all go great, the nice thing is with this kit when the new 125W Phenom 965 drops in price I can just change to that but the missus will have to be rendered unconcious first :wasntme:

Thanks guys.

Dave, I will be using new SATAs with the new board but currently have no cables but Tony's reply settles that. I'll the IDE drive slot for the two DVD/CD drives

;) OK Degsy

You'll probably find that SATA DVDR's are now only about a fiver (if that) more than the equivalent IDE versions so you could, in theory, spend another £20 and not have to use the IDE slot at all :)
