How sad. I always loved his work. Especially the 1980's series - The Equaliser.

Although he has never been an enormously huge overblown seven day wonder, he has remained big for a very long time and from what I've seen of him on chat shows etc, a very nice and modest man.

That makes him truly one of the greatest......RIP

I still remember him in the 1960's series 'Callan'. Its a pity that with so much dross on TV now, all we seem to get are antique/car boot shows, makeover shows & 'I'm a celebrity being paid very well for being in the Jungle' type shows.

This is why I like to watch ITV 4 and the like.

The quizz show/talent show/doing it up culture of TV make me cringe

He was one of the all time icons for my generation :((
