NIce to see a pic of a Vanguard I've not seen anywhere else before
This was BEA'S first aircraft delivered and was sadly lost four years later
Of interest is the comparison of the grey bottom with the polished metal of the Viscount behind

That is even worse than reading the report, just looking at what remains of the cockpit and trying to visualise what went on in there doesn't bear thinking about, especially as it stated they all burnt to death!!

Hi Eric
That was Invicta's G-AXOP in Switzerland
BEA also lost G-APEC due to corrosion of the rear pressure bulkhead over Belgium

Unfortunately I do remember that. Just checked a calendar for 1965 and the morning of the crash was a Saturday. So as usual as a lad, I had cycled to Heathrow that day to see what was new. Not quite what I expected

.
Along with the BKS Ambassador crash at Heathrow, which I also saw the aftermath, these things leave a lasting impression.

I remember PEE as I was an a planespotter then. It was the last one I needed to get the lot. The Sunday after the crash I flew in a Vanguard from Hurn to Heathrow on a special flight with the Air Scouts. We flew in PEU.
