Sorry I don't get this "we were not prepared", they all have big expensive computers to tell them that the bad weather
is coming days ahead, but when it actually arrives it's all in panic mode.
Look at the UK, villages cut off for like 3 weeks, running out of bread and milk, rationing of grit and salt !
People stuck on highways for miles and the Army has to be called in because of 4in of snow.
Ok vent over

The problem is, the people with the biggest most expensive computer (i.e. the Met Office) said 'It's going to be a mild winter', much like the BBQ summer they also promised this turned out to be one of their less reliable forecasts. Consequently most councils didn't over stock on grit etc. and it's currently being consumed far faster than the two salt mines in the country can produce it (30 000 tonnes a week fact fans).
It's also a lot more snow than is usual, certainly in the southern half of the country where it's just not worth councils, the highways agency etc, buying specialist snow clearance equipment that'll get used once a decade. Of course you have to wonder how often it has to happen before that changes?

Well I thought I had seen it all lol, just reading the UK news and I was aghast to learn
that people are NOT allowed to clear their own pathways in front of houses or businesses
as you could be sued if someone slips !!
TO me that makes no sense at all, here in Canada you have 12 hours to clear in front of your house
or it's a $205 fine.
And of course that moron Gordon Brown sits with thumb up bum saying "everythings ok"
Ok time I had another coffee lol

Locally, two days ago they were asking folk to clear the pavement in front of their homes....now we're being warned as above :wall:
