Lakenheath Eagles

I live in Whitby and up to the start of this year part of my daily hound walking routine was to watch and listen to F-15 Eagles from Lakenheath. They often appeared to use Whitby Abbey as a target or waypoint but they don't come over these days. Are they still in business on different routes? Is the Wing stood down for re equipping or grounded? I have e mailed Lakenheath but had no reply.

Lakenheath is still very much alive with eagles,
but i am afraid i have no idea why they don't buzz whitby anymoe.....
maybe someone complained

Graham that reminds me of 1950's air displays when our cousins were notorious for flying a KB-50 with F-100, F-101 and B-66 on tow over the wrong airfields. I suppose with the kit they carry now if they aim for Filey they get to Filey. When you've had enough send them back please.

Although it has been a bit quiet lately - not much activity of any sort.
We often get the demented bumble bees from Linton, and a variety of other aircraft which seem to bomb in low from the sea and aim for Staxton Radar, but as I say, rather quiet lately.

The official word from Lakenheath is that two squadrons have been either deployed or on temporary duty in other parts of the world. I will be patient.

Reminds me of the story about harrier crews out of Wittering. Apparently, they used a particular farmers barn as a visual turning point whilst low level............said farmer, rather perturbed at his hens not laying, painted in large letters on the roof of the barn "P!ss off Biggles"...............this was duly noted by the Harrier crews and for want of keeping the peace, the message was relayed to all other NATO air arms, which led to a "No, really, we'll go and have a look for ourselves" response....... After frequent visits by Dutch F-16s, Belgian F-16s and Alpha Jets, German Phantoms etc etc the message in question was painted out......
