Three shots now taken at Hucknall in 1980 of the superb Sopwith Tabloid replica built by the late Don Cashmore of Rolls Royce. When I was taking these,Don told me that he had been invited to meet Tommy Sopwith himself who I believe at that time was about 90 years old.

Wonderful shots Eric. Love the Dan-Air action shots.

Hi Eric :hello:

Exactly as Garry has illustrated. Swiftsure had been donated to the museum at EMids as Superb had been donated to Brooklands. At that time, the museum at EMids was on the same side of the airport as the terminal and the airport authority were getting 'twitchy' about it so.. having land available on the other side of the runway, they offered that as a possible site for the museum which was gratefully accepted. What happened next is akin to nailing who Jack the Ripper really was!! Demolition people got involved (how still remains a mystery) and the next thing anyone knew was Swiftsure was destroyed.. all that remained being the nose section as shown in that shot. Swifty was still very much a runner at the time so the world would have been left with TWO complete, running Vanguards :(
