From the Scilly Isles Gazette..

Normally the little airport of St.Mary's is rather a quiet place apart from the busy helicopter service but today it was different. To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Battle Of Britain a real Hawker Hurricane would try and set its wheels down on the 600 meters long runway 15 before becoming a Sea Hurricane. It didn't take long for the parking lot to be filled up by the cars of many enthusiastic spectators.
Image

Even the local crow had bought a front row ticket so he wouldn't miss a thing of what was going to happen.
Image

Just about at ETA the unmistakable silouette of the venerable Hurricane indeed appeared above the horizon.
Image

The local photographer was clever enough not to go stand amongst the crowd to get a unique shot of the old Hurry for the local newspaper.
Image

Of course to be on the safe side the St.Mary's airport fire department had been called on standby. Can't be too carefull enough.
It's not everyday that an old warbird tries to settle down here at St.Mary's...
Image

Being the old chap that he obviously is the Hurricane pilot however steered the old warbird meticulously along the Runway 15 approach
path despite of the rather rough weather...

and settled her down in such perfect way that even the local rabbits forgat about their carrots for a moment.
Image

Just ever so slightly dissapointed the St.Mary's Fire Department crew left their vehicles for thee and biscuits in the mess room.
Image

After the pilot had parked his wonderful piece of aviation history amongst even more older and illustre birds of a feather the crowd enjoyed
talking to him for a while although he refused to leave the cockpit for unkown reason.

Since the, atleast by me, much anticipated FSX BOB package by AH/JF has been released for a couple days now i came in here curious to see what you guys think about it... only to find nothing, nada, zero, zilch...... :dunno:

Hope i'm not out of line posting my Scilly Isles Gazette report here..... :hide:

I suppose atleast the Spit flight dynamics could do with some tweaking, otherwise i'm having quite a ball with this BOB pack !

Anyone here that took the plunge too ??....

Cheers,
Jan

Hi Jan :hello:

A great storyline there and well shot screenies  I had the email in my inbox either today or yesterday from JF advertising the BOB package and I binned it on the server without looking too hard I'm afraid :$

Some things I like about FSX and still others I don't. I guess FSX is a consequence of the Hurricanes gear bays looking illuminated which in itself is a nit-pic I know but it looks SO wrong. I've never seen St Mary's from any of those angles and never so crisp as in your screenies. The Hurricane looks good I have to say (notwithstanding the illuminated gear bay) and one day.. when I get more 'into' FSX.. I might delve in and try this pack.

A smashing HU Jan and thanks VM for posting ;)

Jan,
a most excellent presentation with gorgeous screenshots that reminded me I need to go and pick up a copy of that scenery.

As far as the BoB set is concerned, it's from AH / JF. I was extremely disapponted when they released their Spitfire, Lancaster and Mosquito sets to see the mostly negative comments on the forums that I visit, compounded by the fact that, for whatever reason, the texture mapping was different on the AH version of the Spitfire from what it was on the JF version. As a result, I tend to think of these as inferior models, despite the fact that my heritage gives me serious cravings for good models of all three aircraft. That's why I'll wait and see what the reaction is to the new BoB set before I consider buying. It's also why I was most disappointed to hear that the "CBFS" Mosquito project had been effectively suspended, if not cancelled ...

Thank you muchly for posting this thread, Jan,
best regards,
Ro

Thanks for the nice comments, gents. B-)

Yes, it's not an Accusimmed A2A package or anything like that but i like the concept and for 16.50 Euro a piece you do get 3 pretty good looking external and internal Spitfire, Hurricane and Me109 models in various configs including the prototypes. Sound suites are nice too.

It's this screenie that sold me :

Image

Who can resist that, i sure couldn't.. :)

Hopefully Mr.Tudor will do more work on the FD's, really needs that. Seems that A2A is Accusimming/upgrading their wonderful rendition of the MkI Spit but it remains to be seen if a better native FSX model of the Hurricane will show up in the forseeable future...

The arrival of this package has me enthusiasticly re-evaluating the availabillity of FSX AI warbird models, particularly of the British gender. Like before and more or less as expected, nothing to get exited about.... :dunno:

It's not like you guys know anything i don't about this subject, is it ??..... 8)

Tally Ho,
Jan

How nice to get back from an offline-weekend to such a nice screenie story here!
Gorgeous!

And I must say this is a terrific piece of scenery indeed - even though I didn't know there's a rabbit problem at St. Mary. ;)
And I doubt there's many Mk1 Toyota Corollas around there - but I might be wrong and the white car wants to be a Cortina... ;) ;) ;)

Lovely shots, thank you!!
