To be fair I live in Australia so I could be a little out of touch with pay rates in the Old Dart.

Let's see, if a really really keen aero engineer does 50 hours in a working week and works for 48 weeks a year that's 2400 hours. At that pace he worked for just over 416 years.

Hmmm.... must have been a few more, let's say 50, engineers on a project that size. That makes it 8.3 years. Seems a bit more reasonable.

Now we spent £140 per hour so each engineer earned £2.80/hour. Doesn't seem much to me and there'd be very little left for balsa, tissue and cement.

Of course it is the BBC so it must be true.

<---- that's me leaving, the one with the coat.

To be fair, it just says Taranis costs £140 million, it doesn't say the whole program costs that, i.e. if you want another one that's another £140 million. Also who says they had people put it together, that's what robots are for!

So a future RAF recruiting campaign might be along these lines?

Remote control pilots required for combat flights. Five years minimum experience of MS Flight Simulator. Freeware British jet type ratings preferred. No fitness or minimum age requirements.

But who will want to fly it will depend on whether or not there is a VC.

I think I read somewhere another £15M for a VC? *-) 8)
